Main duties of the job
* Provide safeguarding advice and supervision to staff within maternity, paediatric, and emergency departments.
* Attend and represent EKHUFT at Child Protection Conferences, Child in Need meetings, Strategy Discussions, and Child Death procedures.
* Manage individual safeguarding casework and chair health meetings.
* Deliver bespoke and standard safeguarding training to staff, promoting a culture of safeguarding within the Trust.
* Communicate complex information to staff, professionals, families, and carers, while supporting emotional well-being after distressing incidents.

Job responsibilities
NHS Professionals are looking for a Safeguarding Children's Practitioner to join our team at Buckland Hospital in Dover. The purpose of the role is to provide advice and support to all staff through our busy duty system and provide supervision within our maternity, paediatric and emergency departments. You will be offered both in-house and external training opportunities and will receive regular safeguarding supervision to ensure you are supported in this challenging but rewarding role. You will support staff to consider the risk of harm to the child, aid decision making and care planning, referring to and liaising with appropriate agencies where required. You will represent the Trust by attending multi-agency meetings and preparing written reports.
Duties:
* Represent EKHUFT at Child Protection Conferences, Child in Need meetings, Strategy Discussions, and Child Death procedures.
* Manage an individual work caseload of safeguarding cases.
* Organise and chair health meetings.
* Undertake safeguarding supervision for Emergency, paediatric and maternity departments.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information and advice to staff, professionals, children, young people, families, and carers.
* Provide specialist advice for staff, colleagues, and families in relation to safeguarding children and their families.
* Assess, plan, and implement robust safety plans for children, families, and staff.
* Responsible for own professional registration and revalidation requirements, to attend courses relevant to specialism as deemed suitable at appraisal.
Skills:
* Registered children's nurse or Midwife with valid pin (essential).
* Strong resilience to potentially distressing safeguarding issues.
* Driver and owns their own transport (essential).
* Experience in managing safeguarding concerns in children.

Person Specification
Experience:
* Clinical experience in children's nursing or midwifery, with safeguarding expertise.
* Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with multi-agency partners and provide clear, sensitive advice.
* Experience in case management and preparing written reports for safeguarding meetings.
* Driving License and owns their own vehicle.
* Experience in managing safeguarding concerns in children.
Qualifications:
* Registered Nurse or Midwife (Children's Nurse) with current NMC registration.
