The post-holder will be expected to undertake clinical work in conjunction with their clinical colleagues and other professional staff in order to maintain and develop eldery care and acute frailty services. The post-holder will be based at the University Hospital North Durham, Darlington Memorial Hospital or Bishop Auckland Hospital. The post holder will be expected: To undertake clinical work in conjunction with colleagues and other professional staff in order to maintain and develop Elderly Care services and to develop specialist skills in accordance with the needs of the department. Responsibility in conjunction with colleagues for planning future developments of the service. Will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and will be expected to provide a comprehensive clinical service alongside Consultant colleagues. Expectation to cover colleagues in their absence and ensure continuous patient care. For management purposes and use of resources, accountable to the Clinical Director of the Medical Directorate and will ensure the effective and efficient use of resources allocated. Responsible for the professional and educational supervision of junior medical staff. Expected to participate in the postgraduate teaching of medical staff and undergraduates attached to the Trust and in the training of all grades of staff. Research activities, which are considered to be an inherent part of normal clinical duties, will be encouraged and limited research funding may be available following successful applications to the local research and development committee. Continuing Professional Development (CPD); responsibility for ensuring that you meet the national requirements for CPD, both internal and external. Attend regularly, and contribute to, the weekly half-day educational activities held by the Care Group. The Trust supports requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal Colleges and is committed to providing support for these activities. Actively participate in clinical audit. Participate in clinical governance arrangements in line with national and local guidelines and in respect of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Trust in accordance with current best practice. Involved in the care of a patient who subsequently initiates a claim against the Trust and expectation to provide, free of charge, an opinion and statement of facts on the case. On call commitments; the post includes a GIM oncall commitment.
