We are looking for our next Dispatch Manager in our Capacity Solutions business unit. CRST’s Capacity Solutions is fully managed asset-based transportation that includes long haul, drayage, short-haul regional, and time-sensitive freight augmented by our expansive third-party carrier network and power-only capabilities.
* Days: 7 days on, 7 days off (ideally start on Saturday and work through Friday, but flexible on start date)
* Hours: 6 pm to 6 am
* Location: Onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for dispatch & customer service supervising the entire fleet of drivers in a fast-paced environment. Responsible for communicating with drivers, working one-on-one to solve problems, and delivering solutions to ensure maximum utilization of driver hours and increase driver satisfaction and retention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for the direct management and supervision of drivers including: ensuring compliance with HOS and DOT regulations, driver compliance with company regulations, safety, driver retention, and timely movement of freight.
* Establishes solid business relationships and maintains open, accurate, and timely two-way communications with drivers and other team members.
* Exercises discretion and independent judgment to make safe decisions balancing the needs of the customer, driver, and business.
* Ensure absolute confidentiality of customers and drivers alike.
* Follows suggested guidelines provided about database management.
* Analyze scheduled pick-up and delivery appointments daily. Coordinate loads to drivers and confirm each driver is fully informed of all customer and company expectations on every load at the point of dispatch.
* Monitors freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements.
* Monitor transit times of loads dispatched; anticipate and communicate any potential failures projected to ensure late loads are addressed with appropriate stakeholders. Coordinate with Customer Service. Implement contingency logistics plans to secure on-time freight delivery in the event of a breakdown or accident.
* Assist drivers with submitting documents when needed. Ensure all receipts sent in are assigned to correct loads for reimbursement.
* Assigning and approving driver schedules, variations from schedules, and driver requirements.
* Maintain knowledge of customer needs and expectations.
* Answer a high quantity of emails in a timely and professional manner throughout the day.
* Answer the phones in an amiable and professional manner. Answers any questions that are within the area of the position’s responsibility or transfer's the call to the appropriate person to answer questions.
* Work as scheduled and when requested.
* Regular, on-time, predictable attendance.
* Ability to use a PC computer, keyboard, and telephone.
