The Children and Young People’s Empowerment Project (CHILYPEP) is a registered charity that has worked with disadvantaged Children and Young People for almost 23 years. Our work is a combination of youth work approaches and principles, and early intervention and prevention services based on good practice, with young people’s voice at the heart of everything we do.
We are currently looking for a skilled and experienced Mental Health/Youth Worker Practitioner with experience in Children and Young Peoples Mental Health to join our BRV Delivery Team. The ideal candidate will need to be a thoughtful and flexible practitioner who places young people and their welfare at the heart of their practice and has a compassionate, authentic approach.
As BRV Project Worker you will be part of a small team delivering a range of interventions to vulnerable boys and young men aged between 11 and 25. These include one-to-one support, group work and drop-ins at our HOME Wellbeing Hub and in a variety of venues throughout Barnsley. You will be working collaboratively to engage and support boys and young men who present with multiple and complex challenges. Using a youth work approach, you will co-produce activities and curriculum which is young person centred to influence and steer the group work content.

Candidates must have proven experience and skills in:
• At least 2 years paid experience of supporting boys and young men’s mental health and wellbeing in either a mental health or youth work setting or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrable experience of working with boys and young men from disadvantaged backgrounds and with high emotional, behavioural, and social needs.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering groupwork, one-to-one, training and workshops with boys and young men.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering mental health and wellbeing interventions with boys & young men within a Youth Work Framework.
• Ability to build and foster positive, nurturing, and respectful relations with boys and young men, and their families and carers.
• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of youth work and empowerment principles and practice, with a particular emphasis on supporting boys and young men/families affected by mental ill health to improve outcomes.
• An understanding of the wider determinants that affect boys and young men’s mental health and well-being, and the issues, pressures, difficulties and challenges they experience, including the impact of toxic masculinity.
• Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of mental health and wellbeing issues experienced by boys and young men and how to appropriately respond to these.
You will need a Children and Young People’s Mental Health / Youth / Community Work or other relevant qualification to degree level and/or proven experience of youth work experience, with a particular emphasis on supporting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
