Job Description Purpose of the role To manage the Internal Audit department and set the strategic direction. Provide support to the bank's senior management team, and to manage Internal Audit risk across the organization. Accountabilities Management of the Internal Audit department, including oversight of Internal Audit professionals and their performance, implementation of departmental goals and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness. Relationship management of Internal Audit stakeholders. Management of Internal Audit risk, including identification of potential Internal Audit risks, development of strategies to mitigate those risks. Management of Internal Audit projects. Control of the Internal Audit function. Compliance with the relevant requirements and standards of the regulatory system. Information disclosure with FCA or PRA notification. Mandated as the business division/ functional spokesperson or representative to external bodies and shapes the public image of Barclays. Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of how business divisions and functions integrate with the Group to achieve the overall business objectives alongside industry theories and practices within own discipline. Maintain broad and comprehensive functional expertise and significant product knowledge. Accountable for the control and governance agenda of the business division / function. Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays. The BIA Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for providing services to BIA and the BAC chair (QA), enabling the effective and efficient running of BIA as a Function and Third Line of Defence. The BIA COO provides global leadership of the following activities: Professional Practices : Owns the design and implementation of BIA’s auditing methodology to meet professional standards and the standards of Barclays’ diverse regulators across the globe. Quality Assurance: Design, deliver and maintain BIA’s continuous improvement programme that covers all aspects of internal audit activity and continuously monitors its effectiveness on behalf of the Board Audit Committees. The Head of BIA Services presents BIA’s Quality Assurance plan and results at the audit committees for BPLC, BBPLC and BBUKPLC and meets independently with the B BAC chair. Strategy : Design and implement BIA’s multi-year strategy structured into the three pillars of practices, platforms and people. Learning & Development : Designs and delivers BIA’s learning programme to meet professional and regulatory requirements which demonstrate the ongoing competency and professional development of internal audit resources. People Proposition : Lead on all aspects of BIA’s people activities including Early Careers, DEI and firm wide programmes. Data Analytics/Generative AI : BIA’s central team of specialist data analytics and Gen AI resources, responsible for developing and delivering BIA’s strategy to effectively employ data analytics and Gen AI capabilities to enhance the timeliness, coverage and impact of audit effort. Audit planning : Drive and support the development and delivery of the BIA annual audit plan. Consolidated Reporting : Provide comprehensive, standardised MI and reporting to BIA Management team and external stakeholders (including Boards) to enable auditors to give pro-active, independent, value-adding assurance. Chief of Staff Team : Support Legal Entity Chief Internal Auditors in the day to day running of their function including audit plan execution, local management and audit committee reporting and regulatory engagement. Operations : Ensure the technology, tools, processes, controls, management information and operating mechanisms are present to enable BIA to deliver proactive, independent assurance as well as operate as a Function within Barclays. The BIA COO team is c.90 colleagues, located across the UK, US, and Asia, with primary hubs in London, Pune and New York. The team also has a presence in Dublin, Glasgow, Radbroke, Northampton, Whippany and Singapore.
