About the Role This role is an externally funded four-month fixed term contact ending 31st July 2025. MetalloBio has developed a new class of antimicrobials, two lead candidates, KLS116/KLS219, being investigated for therapeutic use and as antimicrobial coatings. These candidates have demonstrated strong activity, each with distinct mechanisms. However, these two alone are insufficient to establish an extended class of antimicrobials and the activity of these candidates has yet to be optimised. This project will evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of 30 analogues based on the structures of KLS116/KLS219. Building a robust class of these drugs will help combat resistance, target specific pathogens, and provide infection prevention flexibility through variations in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. This multidisciplinary project fosters collaboration between academia (NTU/UoS) and industry (MetalloBio/MTIF) utilising chemistry, microbiology and bioinformatics. MetalloBio will provide chemical analogues. NTU/MTIF, basic (MIC/MBC/time-kill) and advanced (DiaMOND/resistance/sequencing) microbiology testing.
