We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Civil & Structural Engineer seasoned in the structural design of major industrial buildings and with a keen interest in growing a team to join us in either our Birmingham or Manchester, UK office. This is a full-time, permanent role reporting to the UK Head of Civil Structural & Architectural Team. It is expected that the Lead Civil & Structural Engineer will be building their own structural and civil team and has the potential to become the Department Head of Civil & Structural Team.
In this role, you will apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities.
You will work independently and as part of project teams on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Civil, Structural, and Architectural team leader. You will oversee the Civil & Structural design in line with International (Euro) Codes or contribute technical knowledge on specialised designs, working on several concurrent projects.
You will assess project requirements, and break projects into tasks/works with Project Managers to determine the scope of work. You will write the scope of work for civil and structural systems based on review and client meetings; and will prepare engineering calculations, STAD-Pro software studies, and civil/structural drawings. You will assign/review the work of the project design teams, and alert Project Managers of scope changes or additional services.
You will work with code officials and design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required. You will review contractor applications for payments and maintain an understanding of the construction process. You will coordinate all aspects of project document completion within IPS, externally with clients, and with other design professionals. You will prepare /review construction budgets based on the project scope. You will develop and promote the use of IPS design and production standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the engineering design of Civil & Structural Works for Industrial projects.
* Experience designing pharmaceutical facilities is desired, but not a necessity.
* A BEng (Hons) in Structural /Civil Engineering or equivalent.
* Structural /civil design experience (specifications, calculations, Design drawings, datasheets, estimation, etc.)
* Achieved or close to Chartered Engineer with IStructE or ICE
* Proficient in Revit structure, structural calculation software for BS/Euro codes, Tekla X-Steel, AutoCAD, etc.
* Conversant with local /International (Euro) Codes /standards and have experience in Civil & Structural Engineering /Design work within the Industrial, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Sciences, or Laboratory industries.
* Previous experience operating collaboratively in a business environment.
