Position: Career Development Officer

Reports To: Training & Recruitment Manager
Position Summary
This position is responsible for career development management of officers. Effectively manage a “hire to retire” process with key milestone dates for officers (promotion, study leave and performance).
Ensure a pipeline of competent personnel are promoted and developed in accordance with the requirements of the fleet.
Major Responsibilities
1. Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
2. Provide mentorship, guidance and direction to help our officers reach their full potential.
3. Maintain and monitor records of appraisals, recommendations, rank time and promotion status to provide a pipeline of promotable officers.
4. Actively engage with seafarers through calls, conferences, ship and training centre visits.
5. Attend foreign conferences as directed by line manager.
6. Drive improvements in seafarer appraisal standards and provide feedback to appraisers.
7. Provide officer promotion projections to management and Marine HR to ensure the fleet meets officer manpower requirements.
8. Schedule promotion interviews for officers.
9. Manage the onshore development programme and act as the direct reporting line for those attending the programme.
10. Integrate newly qualified cadets into the officer pool.
11. Set out career plans for newly graduated cadets to ensure maximisation of SMART funding.
12. Provide the Fleet Personnel Manager and Lead Marine Personnel Officers with study leave/ superior license needs.
13. Seek input from other departments to identify talent performing above and beyond the standard requirements for promotion or for those pushing for a career ashore.
14. Liaise with the training team to identify which officers require courses/training.
15. Review performance appraisals and conduct subsequent calls to ensure positive trends.
16. Provide training on the appraisal process for new and existing staff including familiarisation during ship visits.
17. Showcase the Career Development Officer role and the career development pipeline through the CDO bulletin.
18. Maintain knowledge of the legislative training requirements and ensure that training courses comply with existing and new requirements.
19. Work closely with the training centre team to ensure competencies are continuously maintained and updated.
20. Provide support to recruitment team by assisting with technical interviews for all ranks.
21. Provide support during new hire induction programme.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
1. Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
2. Ability to engage with junior and senior officers regarding career development.
3. Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
4. Fully proficient in Microsoft Applications.
5. Excellent communication skills, comfortable engaging with a diverse work force.
Preferred
1. Familiar with industry regulations and operation of LNG Vessels.
2. Seagoing and/or human resource experience.
