The post holder will have teaching responsibility for the LEAP (Entry level 3 / Level 1) Design & Production programme. Students on this programme require highly individualised approaches to their learning both in and out of the classroom. The post is located in the LEAP team. The tutor for this post will also have responsibility of supporting students to run the college print shop and in ordering stock in order to produce items for clients both internally and externally. The tutor for this post will write and deliver a number of units that cover a wide range of design and employability-based skills in order to support learners on their journey towards employment.
Hours: 36 Hours per week / 39 Weeks per year (Full Time)
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract until April 2026
Salary: £27,198.90 - £31,469.49 p.a. (T4 - T7) within the QAC Q1 banded pay scale. The level is determined by job role requirements/the enclosed criteria. The majority of posts at QAC will be at Q1 £27,198.90 - £31,469.49 p.a.).
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (Q1):
1. Deliver, plan, and assess the curriculum in an innovative, responsible and flexible manner using a highly individualised approach in collaboration with the Line Manager, ensuring the Intent, Implementation and Impact is clear.
2. Plan, assess and record the individual achievements of each learner against EHCP Plans, individual targets and in accordance with the college’s quality processes and funding agency criteria (where applicable).
3. Deliver quality teaching and learning in line with professional standards and tailored to individual learner needs grounded in an informed understanding of their EHCP, goals after QAC in particular, and other assessments.
4. Prepare schemes of work and differentiated lesson planning to make clear the purpose and intent of the taught sessions.
5. Support and teach students through the design process from start to finish including the use of printing equipment and computer software. This would include the use of vinyl printing and sublimation printing equipment and processes.
6. Lead sessions in accordance with good practice in terms of timed, scaffolded and sequenced learning that ensures lesson objectives are implemented and students’ progress can be checked.
7. Ensure assessments include appropriate means of feedback and feedforward; and progress recorded and shared with learners in a timely manner.
8. Contribute to the development of the curriculum through preparation, research, liaison with colleagues and relevant external agencies and management of resources. This should be appropriate to learner needs, outcomes set and conforms to the requirements of examination boards (if required) and funding agencies.
9. Help run and support students in running the college print shop, ensuring it is student-focused and complies with all the relevant standards.
10. Evaluate the quality and success of the curriculum and implement improvements into the curriculum quality improvement plan and self-assessment report.
11. Participate in the PHSE curriculum and pastoral welfare of learners, specifically as a group tutor and personal tutor who is integral in helping shape, support, and monitor the learner journey.
12. Plan, assess and deliver course content in areas such as Employability, PSHE, Preparation for Adulthood, or other similar provisions within your timetable as directed by the Line Manager.
13. Prepare lesson resources that are tailored to individual needs and include a variety of stimulating means to maximise engagement including appropriate use of digital devices, assistive technology, IT interactive resources, and practical activities.
14. Work with the college Transitions, Community Services team and/or other external agencies to support the students during and after college.
15. Promote the aims and ethos of the College both within the teaching and learning context and within the corporate life of the College.
16. Participate in staff training and development within the requirements of the College’s programmes and priorities. The post-holder will be expected to develop communication methods for learners with learning difficulties and to become a competent user of the technological support available to students with visual impairments and/or other learning difficulties as required.
17. Engage in any individual or collaborative research and consultative work agreed by senior management as relevant to the area of work.
18. Contribute on an occasional and voluntary basis to the corporate life of the College.
19. Perform such other duties as are commensurate with the status and nature of the post.
