Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 25 year old man living in Tonyrefail with my family. I have a diagnosis of ASD along with a learning disability and I have recently been diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes. I am currently in a day centre 3 days a week. Due to my disability I am not always aware of such things as personal space and can sometimes seem like I’m in my own world I don’t like to be fussed or However I am polite and thoughtful and always respond well to guidance and advice from my PA. I sometimes need time to process what someone has said to me before I can respond. I love playing on my computer console, particularly combat games. I also love Sci-fi and action films such as DC and Marvel and enjoy bowling and may be stop off at Tesco.
PURPOSE OF JOB
My parents are looking for someone to replace my current PA as PA is leaving in the next couple of months. The hours are usually spent taking me out to the cinema or bowling once a week. There will be opportunity for you to shadow my current PA on a number of shifts if required.
PLACE OF WORK
Collecting me from home and taking me to my preferred activity.
HOURS OF WORK
3 hours per week
Days and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
RATE OF PAY
£13.00 per hour.
Mileage costs also reimbursed.
TASKS INVOLVED
Collecting me from home.
Driving me to my chosen activity.
Booking and paying for our chosen activity.
Supporting me to engage with other people.
Encouraging me to try new things and be independent.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Patient and understanding, who will allow/ gently encourage me interact.
Access to your own car and a full clean driving licence.
Dependable and reliable, as I look forward to my time out and get used to my routine.
Someone who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home.
Experience of autism and diabetes would be beneficial, but not essential as support/guidance can/will be provided by my current PA.
ABOUT THE JOB
Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given (5.6 weeks pro rata).
The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check at no cost to you. You will have to supply 2 references, one of which should be able to comment on your work practices.
