This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, highly enthusiastic and motivated Music Therapist who can place Service Users needs at the centre of their clinical work and who is interested in delivering a high standard of clinical Music Therapy sessions for Children within the Youth Music Project.
This post is funded via CPFT Head to Toe Charity and will specifically support the Youth Music Project in Peterborough Children's Development Centre within the City Care Centre Peterborough and will be managed and clinically supervised within the CPFT Arts Therapies Service. The Arts Therapies Service includes Arts Therapists who innovatively promote recovery and resilience and take referrals for Service Users where a clear clinical need for nonverbal therapy is identified across all three localities Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge. The Music Therapists within the Arts Therapies team are experienced and have a wealth of knowledge to share with the appointed Music Therapist working on the Youth Music Project in Peterborough. This is an excellent opportunity for trailblazing Music Therapy work supporting Children within CPFT's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and to excel in clinical excellence as a Music Therapist within a supportive Arts Therapies team.
Main duties of the job
1. To participate in the delivery of Music Therapy under the guidance of a Specialist Arts Therapist and the Lead Arts Therapist by managing a caseload of clients.
2. To maintain professional standards in accordance with the relevant professional body BAMT and the professional regulator (Health and Care Professions Council).
3. To participate in audit, service evaluation and research activities when required.
4. To demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills and have undertaken appropriate post-registration training.
5. To be proficient in the assessment, identification, treatment and management of the emotional and psychological needs of the population requiring prolonged, in-depth concentration, including risk assessment and assessment of complex conditions.
6. To frequently communicate and receive highly complex sensitive information with people who have experienced trauma/abuse/highly complex needs, their relatives/carers, and other professionals.
7. To have the specialist knowledge/skill to apply psychodynamic formulations and theory to work with individuals, groups, and organizations.

Job responsibilities
1. To demonstrate skills in motivating patients and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.
2. To plan, implement and regularly review integrated individual support for each client in conjunction with team members as appropriate.
3. To work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and across partner agencies.
4. To liaise and communicate effectively and sensitively with other professionals in the MDT and external agencies.
5. To develop close working relationships where appropriate with other agencies involved in current cases, maintaining the requirement for confidentiality, to promote complementary working relationships and ensuring a quality service regarding client care.
6. To have a good understanding of the specific needs of the patient group including times of crisis, e.g., mental health and physical health relapses and periods of challenging behaviour.
7. To use specialist observation skills to assess patients and carer/staff communication (including verbal, non-verbal communication, whole body responses), encouraging adaptive strategies to maximize effective communication, according to perceived client needs including cultural and linguistic differences.
8. To be aware of the conscious and unconscious communications of the service user through their verbal and nonverbal expression including through their use of the artistic processes.
9. To recognize the impact of a person's communication needs and tailor interaction to meet this need.
10. To work collaboratively with patients, their carers and families as appropriate, to make decisions relevant to the patient's individual need.
11. To have the ability to communicate very sensitive or distressing information to service users and carers as required.
12. To write timely professional reports/records and action plans in line with professional guidelines that comply with CPFT record keeping policies as appropriate.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Professional Qualification in Music Therapy at Master's level.
* Degree or equivalent in Music.
Experience
* Experience of managing own caseload and prioritising effectively.
* Experience of Music Therapy individual assessment and intervention relevant to Mental Health.
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to understand complex non-verbal communication.
* Ability to support and engage in shared decision making with patients, including those who experience communication challenges.
* Skills in providing group work.
* Abilities in providing arts therapies across all ages.
* Ability to identify, monitor and evaluate Arts Therapies goals with patients to support recovery and wellbeing.
* Ability to provide detailed and complex psychological reports and information to inform and support care planning processes.
* Ability to liaise effectively with a range of professionals, and external services or organisations, regarding sensitive and complex issues relating to clinical work, including issues relating to risk.
* A strong understanding of Arts Therapies theory in relation to clinical area and modality, informed by research and practice-based evidence.
