An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced paediatric nurse to join our Specialist Nursing Team to be an integral part of a team providing care for children/young people with epilepsy. You will manage a caseload of children/young people and liaise regularly with Consultants, Health visitors, School Nurses, GP’s, tertiary centres etc to enable children/young people to manage their condition.
You should have a good understanding of the management of epilepsy and the impact of the condition of the child/young person/family, be able to coordinate care and access to community resources (e.g nursery / school / out of school activities) as required. The Specialist Nursing roles require individuals to develop expertise in the speciality, be able to teach and support staff in the clinical areas, undertake research and audit as required and consider how to gain patient feedback to review and improve services. You should be an effective communicator, motivated and self-directed and willing to continue to develop professionally. Opportunities will be available to training.
Epsom and St Helier children’s services have been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’ as well as being given great feedback from the London Healthy Partnership peer review. Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children is based at the St Helier site. Children are seen in the dedicated Paediatric A&E which sits alongside the adult ED; Outpatient clinics, Ward and assessment unit. The post holder will work with the Epilepsy team consisting of Consultants with Special interest in Epilepsy and the post holder with secretarial support by one of the Patient Pathway Co-ordinators (PPC). At the Epsom site there is also a Consultant with Special interest in Epilepsy and an Epilepsy Nurse Specialist.
