Main responsibilities
* Working with the Head of Patient Safety & Risk Management the post holder will manage the systems and processes to deliver the quality governance agenda.
* Sitting within the Quality Governance Directorate the post-holder will ensure there are robust and effective procedures in place to drive patient safety and risk management forward.
* The Governance Co-ordinator will promote a culture of learning and openness and support the embedding of lessons learned in practice, for the improvement of patient safety and care.
* The post holder will have a passion for improvement and an eye for detail.
* Previous experience of reviewing or participating in patient safety incidents is essential.
* Clinical experience and an active professional registration is desirable.
* This role works majority of the time on-site at the hospital.
Main duties of the job
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of a robust directorate and clinical governance framework. This includes the review and appropriate allocation of incidents to ensure robust reviews take place and appropriate learning is shared.
* Work with the core Governance Team and Patient Safety Incident investigators to facilitate the delivery of an effective Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) pathway for the Directorate.
* Supporting the Directorate Management Team and core Governance Team in the implementation of the Directorate quality governance programme.
* Lead role in the ongoing development and delivery of the directorate's patient experience and engagement plans and activities.
* Contribute to meeting CQC regulation standards and support staff in the preparation for Directorate inspections.
* Work with service leads to ensure that robust action plans are developed and implemented following the outcome of external & internal visits, i.e., CQC inspection.

Person Specification
Experience & Knowledge
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrable experience of working within a healthcare governance setting (NHS or Private healthcare).
* Knowledge of governance, complaints, patient experience, risk management, audit, quality standards (including CQC) for a minimum of 12 months.
* Demonstrate experience of incident management and an understanding of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
* Good level of clinical governance knowledge and demonstrable experience of working within a clinical governance arena.
* Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of external assessment or regulation in the NHS or other public service.
* Experience of evaluating 'evidence' against prescribed standards for a range of assessments.
* Complaints handling and investigation experience.
* Experience of working in the NHS.
Qualification & Professional
* Degree or equivalent experience or study. Knowledge of statistics/information analysis and the use of information across the NHS acquired through degree or equivalent plus additional specialist knowledge acquired through training and relevant experience to Master's degree level or equivalent.
* Intermediate qualification or demonstrable experience in the use of Microsoft Office Applications.
* Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and use of databases and commercial IT systems.
* Qualification in Quality Improvement, Patient safety, Governance, Risk Management or working towards.
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent report writing skills up to Board level.
* The ability to work on personal initiative and as part of a team, working across professional boundaries at all levels of the site and organisation.
* Demonstrates the skill required to present complex issues clearly and concisely at all levels including Board sub-committee level.
* Good organisational skills; able to work effectively under pressure and to identified and work successfully towards deadlines.
* Evidence of good presentation skills in a range of media and training materials.
* Demonstrates skills in analysis and interpretation of risk, performance, clinical and other data and reports.
* Good level of governance knowledge and demonstrable experience of working within a clinical governance arena.
* Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of external assessment or regulation in the NHS or other public service.
