The System Modelling Engineer will be looking after system models and 1-D simulations. Superconducting magnet systems operate across several domains - thermal, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, and control, which complicates the system development process. The System Modelling Engineer’s job will be to create and maintain a system model that documents behaviour and structure, while also augmenting it with simulations of the relevant physical processes to allow for quicker design of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
Responsibilities
* Build and maintain 1D models of superconducting systems: magnet, cooling interfaces and circuits, amplifiers, protection, and grid power supply.
* Design validation and verification scenarios with project members.
* Work with domain experts to develop Systems Engineering Models to facilitate communication and improve knowledge capture.
* Validate 1-D simulation models against real-world data.
* Perform trade studies to allow system-level optimisation.
* Develop scripts and routines to enhance System Modelling tools.
* Work with Software Engineers to develop Hardware-in-the-Loop simulators.
Requirements
Essential
* Degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
* Experience with 1-D modelling tools such as Modelica, Simulink or Amesim.
* Experience with Electrical or Thermal simulation.
* Programming/scripting skills in either Matlab, MySQL, or similar.
Desired
* Postgraduate Degree or practical experience in Systems Engineering, ideally with exposure to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
* Skills in applying control theory for closed-loop systems.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
* Skills in using Simscape Toolboxes (e.g. Electrical, Fluids, System Composer).
* Experience with an MBSE tool, e.g. Capella, Enterprise Architect, CATIA Magic, other.
Benefits
* Salary dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed from the outset.
* 28 days (inclusive of festive break) holiday plus bank holidays.
* Eligible for discretionary performance-related bonus.
* Share options scheme.
* Pension scheme.
* Financial benefits – including group life insurance, critical illness, health cash plan and discount scheme.
* Innovation and Merit bonuses.
* Investment in training and development to support career progression.
* Opportunity to work on and contribute to world-class innovation.
