Job Title: Field Service Engineer (Hardware) – Full Time
Location: Velindre, Wales (with travel across the UK)
Varian is seeking a dedicated and flexible Field Service Engineer (Hardware) to join our team and support our customer site in Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, Wales & its Satellite Centre in Abergavenny. This is a full-time, hands-on role offering excellent training and career development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide technical support and maintenance for Varian hardware systems at the Velindre site.
* Be available 7 days a week, including on-call support during evenings and weekends (on-call rota from 7am–10pm).
* Deliver out-of-hours support as the primary point of contact in the U.K. with appropriate shift allowances and bonus incentives.
* Work on a rotating schedule and manage service cases effectively.
* Participate in UK-wide travel for training and shadowing experienced Field Service Engineers.
* Troubleshooting Excellence: Dive into the world of Varian Hardware, taking charge of troubleshooting, repairing, installing, upgrading, and performing preventative maintenance on designated equipment following our established procedures and guidelines.
* Customer-Centric Approach: Examine complex customer issues, diagnose and resolve them, and establish lasting customer relationships through effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
* Multi-faceted Expertise: Manage your time efficiently, balancing on-site responsibilities such as preventative maintenance, installations, and upgrades with Varian's Helpdesk function, providing remote support and advice to customers when not scheduled on-site.
* Continuous Learning: Embrace the opportunity for growth by participating in Varian's training classes for TrueBeam & Halcyon products, leading to VMS HW Level II and Imaging Level II certification testing.
Ideal Candidate:
* HS Degree or Equivalent: Preferred in Electronics: Associates degree, technical/vocational training or military experience with electronics.
* Technical Proficiency: Solid knowledge and strong experience in complex electronic and electro-mechanical engineering, micro-computers/PC based systems, High Voltage (HV), and Radio Frequency (RF) systems.
* Perform electrical, mechanical and software troubleshooting to determine problems on complex radiotherapy equipment.
* In-hospital and remote customer support of radiotherapy accelerators.
* Service, support and repair accelerator equipment according to service instructions, manuals and technical bulletins.
* 2 – 5 years of related experience.
* Must be flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond to urgent service needs.
* Must live within close proximity to one of the Velindre sites.
* Comfortable working autonomously while also collaborating with the wider UK service team.
* A keen willingness to learn and have extensive training on the Varian products and hardware.
* Willing to travel externally for training and development.
