In Nigeria, the Company has controlling interests in the cash flow generative Uquo and Stubb Creek oil and gas fields, and the Accugas midstream business in Southeast Nigeria, which provides gas enabling over 10% of Nigeria's thermal power generation. In Niger, the Company has licence interests covering approximately 50% of the highly oil prolific Agadem Rift Basin of Southeast Niger, where the Company has made five oil discoveries and seismically identified a large exploration prospect inventory consisting of 146 exploration targets to be considered for potential future drilling activity. The Company has also announced that it is in the process of acquiring a portfolio of upstream and midstream assets in South Sudan. The company has recently created a renewable energy department to develop and invest in large scale renewable energy projects and become Africa’s leading renewable IPP. The team has already created a portfolio of over 600 MW of projects at early to mid-stage of development, with an ambition to grow to over 1 GW. We are seeking team members who share our vision to rapidly grow this exciting new venture.
Responsibilities:
Accounts payable (AP)
1. Data input of purchase orders (PO) and invoices, with necessary ledger coding, as requested by the AP Manager.
2. Liaise with budget holders and supply chain for approved PO’s and matching invoices.
3. First point of contact for all vendor queries sent to the ‘AP inbox’.
4. Liaise with Treasury Manager to confirm invoice payment dates and to communicate to vendors as required.
5. Review all vendor statements sent to the AP inbox are reconciled to the AP vendor ledger balance, including receiving supporting documentation.
Banking
1. Maintain weekly ‘manual’ cashbook for all UK bank accounts, updating transactions and confirming weekly bank statement balances to the cashbook.
2. Perform routine/miscellaneous payment runs as requested by the Treasury Manager.
3. Ensure that all non-AP payments have been approved externally by the CFO and that this support is included in the UK Approval Workflow.
4. Prepare manual cash journals to post all ad hoc bank direct debits.
Expenses
1. Review all reimbursable employee expenses in Concur (expense management system) each month, checking the validity and clarity of business purpose, legitimacy of amounts claimed in line with receipt images, and confirming correct coding and VAT amounts have been applied.
2. Process all submitted expense claims and follow-up approvers where necessary.
3. Settle prior month’s employee expenses into SAP to ensure only unpaid expenses are ready for payroll submission and prepare new employee expenses spreadsheet for payroll for processing.
4. Review all credit card expenditure settled in Concur, ensuring that the amounts receipted reconcile to the credit card expenditure statements.
5. Reconcile all credit card expenditure posted by month-end, ensuring that the entries are grouped in the relevant month of spending. Send report to AP Manager/Treasury so that unconfirmed balances are resolved.
Supply Chain Management (SCM)
1. Review open POs and update the status as required.
2. Work with SCM to ensure that vendors who issue regular invoices can provide a PO numbers on their invoices for completeness and three-way matching.
The candidate - qualifications & experience:
Experience:
1. Experience in either an accounts payable or finance assistant role.
2. Experience in using accounting software such as SAP or similar ERP systems an advantage.
3. Familiarity with expense management systems like Concur is desirable.
Skills
1. Strong numerical and analytical skills.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
4. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Interest in pursuing accounting technician or book-keeping qualification.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
