About the Role
As the Group Director Operations (GDO) Waitaha Canterbury you will be responsible for delivering equitable, safe and effective hospital and specialist services. Alongside the Clinical Leadership team, you will support the delivery of the local, regional and national priorities as well as manage the resource allocations.
Operationally you will provide leadership that builds high performing, outcome driven hospital and specialist service delivery systems that deliver on the expectations of Health New Zealand. You will have the opportunity to ensure that the experience of patients and their whānau drives how services are delivered.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Health New Zealand – Canterbury is the largest employer in Te Waipounamu (South Island). The district delivers healthcare services to over 600,000 people that live in the Canterbury region, covering an area of the East Coast of the South Island from Kaikōura in the North, to Ashburton in the South, as well as the Rēkohu (Chatham Islands). Health New Zealand - Waitaha also provides services to Te Tai o Poutini West Coast as part of a unique transalpine relationship.
Health NZ owns and operates five major hospital facilities in Ōtautahi Christchurch and Ashburton.
Situated on the Christchurch Campus is Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch Womens Hospital, Waipapa (a purpose-built ‘state of the art facility for acute services which opened in 2020) and Christchurch Outpatients. Christchurch Hospital is the largest tertiary, teaching and research hospital in Te Waipounamu with 836 beds, delivering a full range of emergency, acute, elective and outpatient services, and has the busiest emergency department in Australasia. Christchurch Womens Hospital delivers a full range of tertiary and secondary maternity services.
Burwood Hospital is one of Aotearoas centres of excellence for rehabilitation and elective orthopaedic surgery and houses our Older Persons Health services. It is also one of only two leading providers of specialist Spinal Rehabilitation Care in Aotearoa.
Our Specialist Mental Health Services deliver inpatient, outpatient, community based and mobile services to both adults and children, including forensic services.
Ashburton and Rural Health Services covers specialist medicine and community services with several smaller rural hospitals that work closely with local primary care.
On top of providing health services to its own population, Health NZ – Waitaha Canterbury provides many specialised services to people referred from other Health NZ districts where these services are not available.
About you
You will be a passionate leader with executive level track record of strategic leadership and operational excellence success, who thrives in collaborative environments. Your experience should include a strong background in healthcare leadership with a focus on delivering exceptional services.
* Extensive senior executive health sector experience in varied environments (approx. 10-15 years)
* Minimum 10 years Hospital or specialist service delivery experience at a senior level
* Proven experience successfully leading diverse teams through change and achieving improved results
* Adept at navigating complex challenges, driving continuous improvement, and achieving against a broad set of targets
