Purpose of Job:
The objective of this position is to improve or innovate chemical processes for current products and to investigate new applications for William Blythe's offerings. This encompasses the creation of necessary analytical techniques. The role also entails providing technical assistance for ongoing manufacturing processes and working closely with both existing and potential customers to understand their needs and develop appropriate solutions. Additionally, the representative will advocate for William Blythe at conferences, symposia, and exhibitions, while also aiding the Sales and Marketing team in the promotion and sale of William Blythe's products and services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To support the development of new processes, products and applications for products by devising Laboratory, Pilot Plant and Full Scale experiments (applying statistical methods to experimental design where appropriate) and by either directly executing the experiments or by supervising others in their execution.
2. To prepare written work programmes, including, where appropriate, operating instructions and batch sheets, risk assessments, equipment specifications and indicative costs and agree these with the Technical Manager before implementation.
3. To ensure that raw materials, intermediates, packaging and consumable items (including process specific protective clothing if required) are available in advance of any planned technical development work and that MSDS sheets and allied information are also available.
4. To maintain knowledge of the companies processes, products and product applications and to carry out literature surveys aimed at increasing the companies knowledge of process chemicals and technology.
5. To prepare, in accordance with William Blythe’s New Product and Process Development Procedure and allied Process Safety Management System, Chemical Process Specifications, Chemical Hazard Assessments, Worst Case Scenario Studies and such other sections of these procedures as requested by the Technical Manager or Director and to participate in HAZOPs, SIL Assessments and Human Factors Analyses and other risks assessments which form part of these procedures.
6. To prepare samples of products/intermediates to meet the requirements of internal and external customers.
7. To maintain close contact with the Production Support and Process Development Engineers, to work with them in the development of safe, robust, practical manufacturing processes and to work with them in the economic evaluation of proposed manufacturing processes and product applications.
8. To put forward proposals for investigating manufacturing problems, following through if approved, and to provide technical support, including laboratory and plant based investigatory and monitoring work for all manufacturing processes to improve process efficiency, improve product quality and improve throughput.
9. To participate in off site development and test programs - working to a program agreed with the Technical Manager.
10. To work directly with customers to identify their requirements and then work with customers in William Blythe’s laboratories to develop means of addressing their requirements.
11. To support William Blythe’s sales and marketing efforts by representing the company at conferences, symposia and exhibitions.
Experience and Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree or PhD in chemistry
Experience: Inorganic chemistry, ideally some prior industry experience and experience in copper, tin and iodine chemistry.
