Rotational Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to join our exciting Band 6 rotation. The successful candidate will have experience working in dysphagia and communication within an acute setting, as well as in stroke and neuro rehabilitation, and preferably have worked in community settings and with voice patients.
Rotations include Hyper-Acute/Acute Stroke & Stroke Rehabilitation (based at St Peter’s Hospital), Medical, ICU and voice (including clinics) and Neurorehabilitation (based at the Bradley Unit in Woking Community Hospital).

Staff involvement in research and development is encouraged, with opportunities for service evaluation, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
There is a 7-day service across some teams, and you are expected to participate as per service requirements.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join our Band 6 rotation and carry out an acute, rehab and outpatient voice mix to their role. In addition, the post holder will:
* Undertake advanced assessments, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurological conditions such as stroke and other acquired brain injuries.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload, working without direct supervision.
* Take a role in supervision and teaching of Speech and Language Therapists within clinical specialty and participate in multi-disciplinary team teaching.
* Demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to service development and monitoring of standards of practice.
* Participate in providing a seven-day service as part of their contracted hours on a rota system.

Qualifications
* Completion of RCSLT NQP Autonomous Status
* Evidence of relevant post registration training relevant to clinical specialty
* Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Masters degree equivalent
Experience
* Extensive post qualification experience of acquired neurological caseload.
* Experience of working with stroke patients in either an acute/rehab in-patient setting.
* RCSLT dysphagia competencies and up to date specialist knowledge and skills.
* Experience of working in a team and contributing to team decisions.
* Experience of training other professionals including the wider MDT.
* Experience in line management and supervision of students.
* Relevant experience lone working in the community.
Knowledge
* Ability to carry out a range of assessments and procedures in order to make a clinical diagnosis.
* Ability to identify and set clinical goals with patient and/or carer.
* Well established knowledge of recent developments in practice relevant to the specialist client group.
* Knowledge of audit and its use to improve interventions.
Skills
* Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload.
* Ability to build relationships with colleagues and patients.
Other
* Driving licence and access to car for work.
* Ability to participate in the weekend rota.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
