Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated support worker to join our team. As a support worker, you will provide assistance and support to children in need, ensuring their well-being and promoting their independence. Your role will involve working closely with clients, following care plans, and communicating effectively with team members.
Pay:
£23,920-£26,000 (depending on experience) for 40 hours per week and £50 per night for a sleep in shift which is extra. Candidates are expected to do at least 3 sleep shifts per week. Overtime will be available and will be paid on top.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the promotion of good childcare practice in accordance with Young Horizons Policies and Procedures, Quality Standards, and Every Child Matters.
2. Provide care, support, and supervision, including household tasks, cooking, shopping, laundry, and independent living skills to the young people in their care.
3. Maintain an environment of therapeutic care for all young people.
4. Work restoratively with young people.
5. Actively promote the welfare, safety, personal development, and wellbeing of young people placed at Young Horizons.
6. Administer prescribed and non-prescribed medication to young people as dictated by health practitioners and according to the young person’s Placement Plan and Young Horizons Policies.
7. Maintain good communication skills and written records.
8. Ensure that the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of young people placed at Young Horizons are met where at all possible.
9. Support young people by driving them to home visits, school, and appointments that may involve long distances via motorways.
10. Carry out duties in line with Young Horizons policies and procedures and Equal Opportunities.
11. Work in partnership with educational staff to ensure that the educational needs of the young people are met.
12. Promote anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunity practices in line with Young Horizons policy.
13. Attend and take an active part in team meetings, handovers, and supervisions.
14. Commit to training and development through Young Horizons, including gaining the Level 3 Diploma in Caring for Children and Young People in Residential Care.
15. Attend training and maintain professional development to meet the demands of the job and to participate and implement Young Horizons behaviour management techniques.
16. Promote the good reputation of Young Horizons in all contact with external agencies and individuals.
17. Support and maintain effective working relationships with all other staff and promote good relationships with local residents and the general community.
Skills Required:
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is preferred
* Ability to drive and possess a valid driver's license
* Knowledge of childcare practices and techniques
* Proficient in using basic IT tools for documentation and communication
