Base pay range
A creative workshop that makes sets for film and TV is looking for a Workshop Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running, safety, and efficiency of the workshop. Unlike most workshops, the projects vary dramatically, and with each project, the space is constantly changing.
The workshop consists of 5 main areas: carpentry, metal work, C&C routing, painting & finishing, and the yard.
Responsibilities
1. Health and safety responsibilities, ensuring compliance across all departments.
2. Maintain inventory of tools, consumables, and waste disposal.
3. Continuously improve methods, systems, productivity, and output.
4. Implement and maintain PAT testing schedules, workshop safety posters, and COSHH storage.
5. Conduct orientation for new employees on workshop procedures and policies.
6. Manage shutter operations and ensure workshop security.
7. Enforce safe driving protocols, emergency plans, and fire prevention measures.
8. Oversee machinery training, ladder safety, working-at-heights safety, and extraction system checks.
9. Ensure proper racking and stacking, traffic management, and slip/trip hazard inspections.
10. Monitor use and maintenance of power tools, PPE checks, and manual handling practices.
11. Manage first aid provisions and maintain clear emergency exit routes.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing a workshop of a similar nature, ideally that works on big projects such as set design, sculpture, events, or installations. You will have solid health and safety knowledge and ideally a NEBOSH construction certificate.
