Position: Head of Software Engineering
Reporting to: Chief Technical Officer

Today, the company offers a full suite of solutions between the antenna and the modem for both the uplink and downlink chains. In 2019, ETL expanded its range to include instrumentation and measurement equipment for the set up and testing of RF chains through its acquisition of Atlantic Microwave Ltd.
Role Overview:
Reporting to the CTO, the role of Head of Software Engineering is an exciting new position within our Engineering Management Team that will be pivotal to our growth plans.
The successful candidate will oversee the software function with overall responsibility for software application development. As operational lead, they will set the approach to ensure software is built to the highest standards using effective coding principles in line with the broader company strategy. They will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership to the engineering team, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of software products.
As a key member of the Engineering Management Team, the role will support the development of our product strategies, overseeing the roadmap and delivery of high-quality software, as well as improving the working practices within the software and engineering teams, suggesting new ways of working and continual improvement of our methods and processes. They will be an individual that focuses on collaborative and impactful software solutions.
As a naturally forward-thinking Manager, they will collaborate and lead a team of highly skilled professionals, passionate about software solution engineering.
The ideal Candidate:
This role is ideal for an accomplished Software Engineering leader, with a proven track record in developing and leading a successful Software department. The ideal candidate would preferably have previous experience within the Sat Coms/ RF or Software defined radio industry; however, this is not essential. We are seeking a technical expert who is passionate about growing and developing a Software function.
Key Role Responsibilities:
* Technical leader and focal point for the software development team – ensuring software is well designed and of high quality from design through to release.
* Support the Project Manager/Project Lead in developing project roadmaps, understanding delivery time scales, and communicating these across the design process end to end.
* Identifying technical risks/opportunities and proactively developing plans to mitigate and realise them.
* Collaborating with key internal teams to ensure alignment/effectiveness for implementation of both existing and new products.
* Updating Team and business on new technologies.
Desired Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
* A proven leader in the field of Software Engineering with demonstrable experience of leading a software function/team.
* Solid experience in developing a team both from a technical skills perspective in ability to write embedded software on a variety of different platforms to supporting and coaching throughout the software development cycle, staying hands-on and guiding the team through technical challenges.
* Proven experience of managing project/development cycles, ensuring effective outcomes and cultivating an innovative work environment.
* A motivated and innovative leader with high level of personal accountability and ambition.
* Ability to lead the growth and development of the Software Engineering function through effective hiring, training, mentoring, and retention of top talent.
