This is an opportunity to use a wide range of skills such as spotting the sick child, initiating emergency treatment, providing high dependency care, and preparing sick children for transfer to the regional children's hospital.

We are looking for individuals with transferable post-registration experience or a recent Emergency Department sign-off placement.

Main duties of the job
1. A post with responsibility for the organization and management of resources in the provision of emergency health care given to patients aged 0-18 years old.
2. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring the co-ordination and flow of patients in a safe but timely manner to meet the government emergency care targets.
3. Undertake supervision, mentorship, and where appropriate teach registered and non-registered nursing staff.
4. Ensuring that staff provide the highest achievable standard of emergency care.

Essential
* Diploma in Health Studies. Degree or on Degree pathway. RN Child Branch or RSCN.
* Child protection level 3 training. PLS.
* Mentorship course.
* Major Incident Training.
* APLS / EPLS.
* NMC registration.
Desirable
* ALS. ILS.
* Child and Adult Safeguarding training.
* Major Incident Training.
* Mentorship.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* In-depth understanding and knowledge of PEWS / the care of the Critically Ill Child.
* In-depth knowledge of the commonly used paediatric medicines / drug therapies.
* Ability to support the emergency team through a paediatric resuscitation / trauma. I/V drug administration.
* Understanding of the Emergency Care targets. Initial assessment of the emergency patient and identifying their priority for clinical assessment.
* Mentor / supervise junior nursing staff, undertake their appraisals and advise with their PDP's.
* Assist patients to self-administer Entonox.
* Health promotion awareness for the care of a child and to give that knowledge to both medical, nursing staff, and child carer.
Desirable
* Venepuncture/Cannulation.
* Suturing and other forms of wound closure.
* Application of all limb supports especially Plaster of Paris.
