About The Role: We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Platform Engineer (2nd Line) to join our Platform team and help manage and evolve our hybrid infrastructure estate. This is a key technical role where you'll provide support, drive proactive improvements, and contribute to platform resilience across our services. You’ll take ownership of escalated incidents, lead patching and infrastructure upgrades, and ensure our systems remain secure, available, and high-performing. The role also includes participation in our on-call rota, with compensation provided separately. Key Responsibilities: Manage and resolve escalated support tickets in line with SLAs Proactively monitor infrastructure health, capacity, and security Lead patching and system updates, including automation where possible Support infrastructure projects and platform upgrades Administer Windows Server, VMware vSphere, SAN storage, Microsoft 365, and networking tools Attend the data centre as required for hardware or network work Maintain system documentation and support compliance with ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for critical incidents Mentor junior team members and contribute to platform tooling and improvements Success in This Role Looks Like Escalated issues are resolved swiftly and thoroughly, with strong feedback from stakeholders Proactive monitoring reduces incidents before they arise Infrastructure upgrades and changes are delivered smoothly, with minimal disruption The platform remains secure, compliant, and well-documented You’re seen as a reliable, collaborative engineer who contributes beyond the day-to-day Requirements What We're Looking For: The ideal candidate will have: At least three years’ experience supporting infrastructure in an enterprise or secure setting, and strong knowledge of at least five of the following technologies: Active Directory Windows Server VMware vSphere NetApp SAN Microsoft 365 SQL Server Linux RDS PKI You’ll also bring: Familiarity with scripting (e.g. PowerShell or Python) Solid understanding of monitoring tools and infrastructure automation Experience with networking principles, security controls, and compliance standards Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for occasional data centre visits) Certifications are desirable (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft, VMware), but we welcome applications from technically strong candidates without formal accreditation if you can demonstrate your experience and communication strengths. Security Clearance Requirements This role requires the successful candidate to be eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance. To meet this requirement, applicants must: Have the right to work in the UK Have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years Not have spent more than 6 months outside the UK in total during that period Be willing to undergo security vetting as part of the onboarding process Please note that holding current SC clearance is not essential at the point of application, but eligibility is required.
