Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist or Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join us in the Cellular Pathology laboratory based at York Hospital. We provide a UKAS accredited diagnostic pathology service for the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service and process over 33,500 cases per annum. The post is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate must be HCPC registered. Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist applicants must hold the IBMS specialist portfolio in Cellular Pathology. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards. Candidates without the IBMS Specialist Portfolio will be considered for a band 5 Biomedical Scientist post. Main duties of the job You will be expected to undertake routine and specialist histopathology including immunohistochemistry, frozen sections, special stains, molecular diagnostics, laboratory QC and at band 6 some BMS dissection work. In the next twelve months we will have implemented a new LIMS and digital pathology. You will possess the knowledge and skill levels enabling you to work both independently; supervising other lab staff as appropriate; and under the supervision of senior biomedical scientists. You will also play a role in the training and development of scienttific staff.
