Due to continued growth in our business, we have a requirement for an Aircraft Paint Technician to join our team at our Peterborough, Ontario location.
General Accountability
To safely and efficiently prepare and prime aircraft for exterior paint and coating application in accordance with customer and project specifications as well as industry regulations.
Specific Accountabilities
1. Report to your workstation for your regularly scheduled shift(s) prior to your start time.
2. Meet with department Crew Lead to receive daily activity assignment.
3. Ask questions to obtain clarity on Crew Lead's expectations (quality & timing).
4. Complete assigned work in compliance with training received and continuous instruction from your Crew Lead, in accordance with Transport Canada and Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
5. When task is complete, have your Crew Lead sign off and accept the next task.
6. If your Crew Lead states that the job is incomplete or does not meet quality requirements, inquire what FCC expectations are and which specific area(s) require rework. Ask for clarification to ensure understanding.
7. Ensure to report to your assigned workstation for your regularly scheduled shift prior to your start time and respect the start & stop times of scheduled breaks.
8. Maintain professional work habits at all times.
9. Preparation of Aircraft for Paint in accordance with standard procedures, including but not limited to masking, washing, and sanding.
10. Painting of Aircraft in accordance with standard procedures, including but not limited to mixing, blending, and matching paint.
11. Performance of internal quality inspections during each phase of the paint activity.
12. Support the completion of required documentation in accordance with AS9100 standards.
13. Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools.
14. Measure, weigh, or mix cleaning solutions, using measuring tanks, calibrated rods, or suction tubes.
15. Follow standard operating procedures where PPE (personal protective equipment) is required and when using tools and equipment such as dual action sanders and hydraulic lift platforms.
16. Follow standard operating procedures when using sealants, paint strippers, and corrosion-preventive chemicals and use protective equipment as required.
17. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
General Physical Activities:
1. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending at trunk, and handling of materials (up to 40 pounds).
2. Able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test to obtain and wear respirator equipment/protection.
3. Ability to work shifts.
4. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and at times, work in small or confined spaces.
5. Inform Crew Lead of any necessary tools, equipment, and supplies needed to perform task(s) (including items from stores).
6. Report to Crew Lead on:
1. Progress of assigned task.
2. Discrepancies – any variable that will negatively affect the quality & timing of task(s).
3. Recommendations.
7. Complete vacation and time off requests with as much notice as possible using the UKG online portal (90-day notice required for multiple days off).
8. Other duties assigned by Crew Lead and/or Department Head.
Experience and Education Requirements:
1. Completion of secondary school is required.
2. Ideally 3 years of transferable skills (Bus, Boat, Auto Painting, Bodywork, or Paint Preparation experience).
Skills/Abilities:
1. Good mobility, manual dexterity, and physical condition to work in areas on and around the aircraft where access may be limited.
2. Ability to maintain professional work habits at all times.
3. Able to understand and follow direction with minimal supervision.
4. Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
5. Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
6. Able to work both independently and within a team environment; tasks may be shared or reallocated daily.
7. Must have flexibility to adapt to changing demands and schedules, including needs of the organization.
8. Excellent attention to detail.
9. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to maintain effective relationships.
10. Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Working Hours:
This is a full-time (FT) position where hours will change due to business operational needs and flexibility is required. At present, the standard hours of work are Monday to Friday, 6.00 am to 3.00 pm.
NOTE: Working hours are subject to change to meet operational requirements and weekend working as well as second-shift will likely be introduced early in 2025.
Working Conditions:
1. Regular periods during which there is continuous physical effort required, e.g., walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
2. Exposure to factors such as temperature variations, fumes, moving machinery, humidity, noise, and materials which cause periods of discomfort.
3. Frequent need to give concentrated close attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.
4. There is modest pressure from deadlines or other productivity standards. Work can be somewhat repetitious.
5. Work at elevated heights when required.
