As a Yard Operative, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of our building merchant’s yard. Your responsibilities will include handling and preparing materials for customers, maintaining inventory, ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the yard, and providing excellent service to our customers. This role requires a proactive and hands-on individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to upholding the highest standards of service and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
* Safely load and unload construction materials from delivery vehicles, ensuring accurate placement and storage.
* Assist customers with the selection and loading of materials, providing advice and guidance on product availability and suitability.
* Operate plant machinery such as forklifts to move and organise stock efficiently.
* Monitor inventory for quality control, identifying damaged or expired products and reporting them for corrective action.
* Provide exceptional service to all customers, addressing inquiries and ensuring a positive experience.
* Implement safety measures to protect customers, staff, and property, including proper signage and safe operating procedures.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised yard environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
* Work closely with other yard operatives and branch team members to ensure smooth operations and timely order fulfilment.
The Ideal Candidate:
* Previous experience in a Yard Operative, warehouse, or construction role.
* A track record of punctuality, reliability, and strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships.
* A valid FLT/Plant Licence or willingness to obtain one (training provided).
* A keen awareness of Health and Safety regulations relating to the workplace, and the ability to adopt Manual Handling techniques safely.
* Familiarity with building products.
* Willingness to work as part of a team, supporting colleagues during busy periods, assisting with tasks outside of the yard as needed.
* Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and being able to prioritise tasks is essential for this role.
