The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities and managing the project’s field personnel. This key role is essential to the successful delivery of the project, ensuring that work is completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Superintendent will ensure effective coordination between all teams and maintain a safe, productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Install, alter, repair, and maintain electrical systems and related equipment.
2. Read and interpret electrical and mechanical code specifications.
3. Plan the layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures according to job specifications and local codes.
4. Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
5. Inspect electrical systems to identify hazards or defects and ensure code compliance.
6. Supervise field teams and monitor their progress.
7. Enforce safety policies and procedures.
8. Report progress to the Project Manager.
9. Create lookahead schedules and plan work fronts.
10. Break projects into manageable tasks with set timeframes.
11. Assign tasks to teams and assist with schedule management.
12. Communicate with clients to define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
13. Ensure client needs are met as projects evolve.
14. Assist with budget preparation, analyze risks and opportunities.
15. Oversee project procurement and address any issues that arise.
16. Act as the point of contact for project updates and status reports.
17. Work closely with the Project Manager to resolve any blockers.
18. Monitor working hours, project plans, and expenditures.
19. Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports and plans.
20. Ensure standards are met through quality assurance tests.
21. Lead a crew of 25-50 workers.
Preferred Qualifications
1. 5-10+ years of experience in a similar role.
2. EIT or Journeyperson Certificate.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
4. Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Excellent organizational skills.
7. Familiarity with P6 scheduling software is an asset.
Experience
A solid background in electrical work is essential. Candidates must thrive in a team-oriented environment but also be capable of working independently with minimal supervision. This role follows a 5-on/2-off schedule, with 10-hour days, depending on project needs during the construction phase.
