Job overview
The Clinical Tutor is responsible for providing and facilitating professional practice education for undergraduate student Radiographers and apprentice Radiographers while they are on clinical placement within the Directorate. This role involves acting as a key liaison between the Academic Department and clinical staff within the campus, as well as supporting CPD and post graduate development. This role requires substantial experience in general radiography, including some at a senior level, and the ability to support and assess student Radiographers in a clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical Education: Provide education and support to undergraduate and apprentice Radiographers, ensuring they meet the range of experience recommended by the Higher Education Institution (HEI).
* Liaison: Act as a liaison with the University’s Clinical Learning Manager and attend relevant meetings.
* Student Support: Serve as the initial point of contact for student Radiographers on placement, providing regular feedback and support.
* Clinical Rosters: Plan and coordinate clinical rosters to maximize placement capacity and ensure integration with training stages.
* Supervision: Supervise student Radiographers and apprentices, ensuring they meet competency targets and promoting learning opportunities.
* Assessment: Participate in the student professional practice formative assessment scheme and lead clinical assessor training.
* Reporting: Compile reports and assessments on student progress and provide detailed evaluations.
Clinical Duties
* Patient Care: Ensure the welfare and comfort of patients during their examinations and maintain high standards of clinical practice.
* Examination Justification: Justify all examination requests prior to exposure to ionizing radiation as required by IRMER regulations.
* Image Processing: Carry out post-image processing to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
* Clinical Assessment: Review images and make clinical assessments to determine if additional imaging is required.

Registration
* Registration as a Radiographer with the Health Professions Council plus evidence of CPD.
Qualifications
* BSc (Radiography) or equivalent.
* Evidence of recent CPD.
* Fieldwork educators course Evidence of study at Post Graduate level of equivalent experience.
* Evidence of teaching qualification.
* Post Graduate Qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
* Substantial experience in general radiography including some at Senior level.
* Experience in coaching and formally assessing student radiographers.
* Formal teaching skills.
Skills
* Organisational Skills: Ability to prioritise and organise workload. Able to manage own time effectively. Ability to plan, organise and execute tutorials.
* Interpersonal Skills: Able to communicate well in a range of personnel in both clinical and academic environments. Able to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Leadership: Ability to lead staff in carrying out their duties. Ability to motivate staff to enhance job performance.
* Communication: Able to engage effectively in dialogue with individuals at all levels.
* Technical Skills: Familiarity with Word processing. Keyboard skills.
* Teaching & Coaching Skills: Ability to support the formal undergraduate teaching programme by teaching students in a range of subjects in a clinical environment. Ability to assess clinical performance, give feedback and plan action. Ability to coach and supervise both students and less experienced radiographers in all techniques.
