The Minster Equine Veterinary Practice, York
Veterinary Surgeon
Location: York, North Yorkshire
£40-60k
Are you a veterinary surgeon with at least 3 years equine experience and a keen interest in orthopedics? Do you want to develop your skills with exposure to a thoroughbred racehorse caseload? Are you looking for your next challenge in a supportive, flexible and forward-thinking team?
About Us
Minster Equine, part of VetPartners, is a dedicated equine practice based near York with a vision to become the most highly recommended practice in North Yorkshire. Our experienced and motivated team comprises 5 vets, 2 nurses, 2 nursing assistants, and 3 office-based team members. Our varied ambulatory caseload includes everything from children’s ponies and competition horses to elite racehorses. In addition, we provide veterinary cover at York racecourse and local point-to-points.
We are well equipped with multiple DRs, scanners, scopes, ECSWT and dental systems enabling us to provide a comprehensive ambulatory service. Clinics in Poppleton and Malton allow for further investigation or treatment that cannot be performed out on the road.
The local area can provide for an abundance of extracurricular activities, with the coast, the North York Moors or the Dales within a short drive. Alternatively, London is a 2-hour train journey.
The Role
We are looking for a proactive and capable vet with a keen interest in orthopaedics to help manage and grow this caseload, while also contributing to our diverse ambulatory work. We currently have a great team of experienced, capable and collaborative vets servicing the caseload. Someone who has a keen interest and experience in diagnostic orthopedics is preferable although not essential as training can be provided. Prior experience with racehorses is beneficial, but not essential – a passion for learning and development is more important.
The rota is flexible and can be tailored to individuals. Half of our OOH is serviced by EquiCall; currently the rota is 1:10. A Friday off follows any weekend on-call duty.
Excluding our new graduate, all our vets hold certificate qualifications as well as other post-graduate degrees, and we would actively encourage and support the successful candidate to further their development in whatever area they desire.
Benefits
* 7.2 weeks holiday (inclusive of bank holidays, but not including extra days holiday during Christmas period)
* £1,750 CPD allowance, plus additional funded BEVA congress attendance
* Certificate or other further qualifications supported
* Professional fees (RCVS, BVA, ARVS or equivalent) covered
* Company vehicle available if required
* Discounted veterinary care across VetPartners practices
* Mobile phone provided
* Comprehensive benefits including pension, HealthShield, enhanced parental leave, and access to CPD and collaboration across the wider group
If you’re ready to take the next step in your equine veterinary career and want to join a friendly, forward-thinking team, we’d love to hear from you.
