Join a dynamic and highly motivated team of Human Factors (HF) practitioners that design, evaluate/test, integrate, and support the certification of flight systems within Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. You will be integral in creating solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers. As a HF Principal Systems Engineer, you will be involved in every aspect of the systems life cycle, from ideation via maturation to certification.
The HF Principal Systems Engineer is a technical management position with high visibility within the organization. You will be working in the HF Center of Excellence (COE), guiding HF activities across current and future products. The HF COE performs HF systems design, analysis, and evaluations/tests for the Air Transport, Regional, Business, General Aviation, Helicopter, and Urban Air Mobility market segments.
The qualities and attributes needed for this role include a big-picture perspective of flight deck HF methods, processes, and best practices resulting in products which are safe, certifiable, easy to use, increase operational performance and efficiency, and provide an outstanding pilot experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical expertise and management: Use expert knowledge of the industry to support strategic planning, mentoring junior engineers and establish relevant engineering design requirements.
* Interface with the various internal stakeholders as well as customers, be a key focal in development of new business opportunities and product lines. You will also interact with Honeywell pilots to develop and assess overall flight deck systems physical and cognitive usability to ensure flight deck interfaces and automation complements the capabilities of pilots.
* Design and Analysis: Ensure the smooth transition of prototype designs into product COEs, define Human Machine Interface philosophy and design requirements, steer the development of design guidelines, ensure human centred design and optimum usability in the operation of flight deck systems.
* Evaluation and Testing: Conduct pilot acceptance evaluations, define test procedures, and investigate test data to assess system performance and identify improvement areas. Definition of HF requirements for evaluation/test facilities (e.g., mockups, benches, simulators, or aircraft).
* Qualification and Certification Activities: Coordinate with regulatory authorities, define certification requirements, and create necessary documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key skills and qualifications
* University education in a technical discipline e.g., sciences, technology, or engineering.
* 15 + years aviation/aerospace industry experience, out of which 10 + years of Human Factors field.
* Strong knowledge of aeronautical and systems engineering, and HF in flight deck design and certification, aircraft avionics systems and system integration. Experience with experiment design, data collection and diagnostic methods.
* Knowledge of flight deck HF certification regulations and guidelines, industry standards and white papers.
* Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with customers and Authorities. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of customers; applying first-hand customer information for improvements; establishing and maintaining effective customer relationships.
