Principal Geo-Environmental Project Engineer

My client is currently recruiting for a Principal Project Engineer to join the team to work remotely from the Birmingham office. The company aims to open an office in Southampton in the future; for now, the opportunity will be remote with occasional visits to the Birmingham office.

About the Role:
As a Principal Geo-Environmental Project Engineer, you will work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and directors. You will manage and deliver geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services to a diverse range of clients, including residential and commercial developers, public bodies, and private companies.
The projects you will be involved in are diverse and engaging, offering a good balance of site and office-based work. From ground investigations and contaminated land assessments to remediation design and verification, you'll gain exposure to a variety of technical challenges and exciting opportunities to grow your expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design and delivery of geo-environmental and geotechnical projects from inception to completion.
2. Manage a variety of project types, including ground investigations, contaminated land assessments, geotechnical design, remediation, and verification.
3. Mentor and support junior staff, sharing your knowledge and expertise to enhance their professional development.
4. Produce project fee proposals and tenders, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
5. Attend client meetings, site visits, and oversee site work as needed.
6. Maintain and implement health and safety standards across projects.
7. Develop client relationships and assist with business development activities.
8. Check and approve technical reports, health and safety documentation, drawings, and other deliverables.
9. Prepare complex technical assessments, including Phase I/II geo-environmental assessments, risk assessments (ground gas, human health, and controlled waters), remediation strategies, and geotechnical assessments.
10. Liaise with regulators and ensure compliance with industry standards and legislation.
Skills and Experience Required:
1. Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering.
2. Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
3. Postgraduate degree or chartered status (or working towards) is desirable but not essential.
4. In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
5. Strong project management skills, with experience in managing large-scale and complex projects.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
7. Full UK driving license (manual transmission).
