Job title: End User Compute Engineer – Linux Platforms

Salary: Up to £60,000 (depending on skills and experience)
What you’ll be doing:
* Oversee the end-to-end process for building and maintaining Linux desktop images (Almalinux, RHEL). Create and develop best practices and procedures for Linux environments.
* Provide support for IM&T Infrastructure, including networks, Linux, and Windows systems and applications.
* Maximize desktop performance by monitoring, troubleshooting, and scheduling upgrades.
* Undertake fault investigations in local and remote environments using multiple information sources.
* Secure Linux systems by establishing and enforcing policies, defining, and monitoring access; support and administer firewall and switched network environments in line with IT security policies.
* Collaborate with the team to develop solutions approved by Architecture and deployed into through-life support.
* Research problems and issues, gather information from various sources, and review defects on platforms or assemblies to fully understand and resolve problems.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Proficient in VMware (vCenter/ESXi, Horizon, Nexus).
* Expertise in Linux operating systems, particularly Almalinux and RHEL.
* Strong understanding of automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Packer, AWX/Tower).
* Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.
* Experience in security hardening (CIS benchmarks).
Desirable:
* Familiarity with Aria Operations (vROPs), LibreNMS.
* Experience with HashiCorp tools (Packer, Terraform) and scripting languages (Python).
* Working knowledge of Bamboo/Bitbucket.
* Experience with Confluence/Jira.
* Familiarity with ServiceNow.
* Basic knowledge of Windows systems.
* Experience with Trellix/SEP, Tanium, and Backup/BCP/DR strategies.
