Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our team at our Harrogate office. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, practical experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop ground models and determine geotechnical parameters.
2. Design various geotechnical structures including piles, foundations, retaining walls, ground anchors, soil nails, and reinforced soil slopes and walls.
3. Conduct ground movement assessments and settlement analysis.
4. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver successful projects.
5. Act as a mentor to junior engineers and provide technical support as needed.
Skills and Experience:
1. Strong understanding of soil mechanics and soil/structure interaction.
2. Use of software tools such as Oasys Pile, Alp, PDisp, Adsec, ADC, Rocscience Slide, WALLAP, AutoCAD, and Excel. Some experience in the use of Plaxis 3D or other FE software would be desirable.
3. Good knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards (such as: BS EN 1990, BS EN 1991, BS EN 1992, BS EN 1997, BS8002, BS8004, BS8006, BS8081).
4. Good knowledge of relevant CIRIA guides.
5. Thorough understanding of ground investigation techniques and experience in specifying geotechnical testing (in-situ and laboratory) while interpreting results accurately.
6. A self-starter attitude, conducting independent reading and research with guidance from the Technical Director.
7. Excellent analytical skills and a curious, inquisitive mindset.
Requirements:
1. BSc in Civil Engineering or Geology.
2. MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.
3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Located or willing to relocate to the Harrogate area.
