Team Leader for Dangerous Goods (DG) Packaging
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
Package: £47,690 - £75,000 per annum ( depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)
A relocation package may be available (terms and conditions apply).

Let us introduce the role
AWE is currently looking to recruit a Team Leader for Dangerous Goods (DG) Packaging within the Surety Group, which is part of the Warhead Engineering sub-function.
The successful candidate will lead a team of warhead engineers responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing warhead components and sub-systems in accordance with AWE’s Product Lifecycle management process.
The team deliver the following capabilities:
1. Manage the design of warhead components Packaging (for transport, handling and containment) including the development of requirements and interfaces.
2. Provide evidence for design decisions and option selection in line with PLM and nuclear engineering methods.
3. Provide manufacturing drawings and sketches to AWE WDO standards.
4. Provide manufactured concepts and prototypes through external and internal suppliers.
5. Test concepts and prototypes in line with verification plans developed from requirements.
You will be accountable for delivering the functional capability and demand to the future programme requirements, applying the sub-function’s strategy and providing effective guidance as the main contact point for team members.
You will be responsible for maintaining a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources aligned to business requirements in order to deliver the integrated technical programme.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
1. In line with the Leadership Blueprint, lead, coach & develop the team and influence others at specialism or functional level to create & deliver our operational plans (First Level Leader).
2. Assess staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and take corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions.
3. Engage with Subject Matter Experts within the team and beyond to provide expert knowledge and technical expertise in the field of technical specialism.
4. Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.
5. Using the sub-functions strategy to define the teams’ operational plan while managing resources in a safe, secure and cost efficient manner.
6. Responsible for the technical quality of the work undertaken by the team and/or teams through appropriate internal (i.e. with Subject Matter Experts) and external reviews.
7. Ensuring that the work undertaken by the team is consistent with AWE strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards while minimising risk to delivery of the Integrated Technical Programme.
8. Responsible for knowledge capture to maintain, share, preserve and protect intellectual property.
9. Providing an agile capability, delivering critical skills and resource aligned to business requirements underpinning the Programme.
10. Responsible for undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line and task management.
