We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager to join the Control Testing Team within the Chief Controls Office, reporting into the Head of Control Testing. As a Senior Manager in the First Line Control Testing Team, you will lead a team of Managers and Consultants in assessing the design and operational effectiveness of critical controls, providing assurance that they mitigate the risks faced by the Society. As a central part of the First Line of defence, our vision is to be recognised as a trusted partner to our stakeholders and to support the development of a strong risk culture. You will work with senior stakeholders and 3LoD peers to agree control testing plans for your portfolio of process and policy areas, before leading your team to deliver to the highest standards in accordance with our defined methodology. Where enhancements in the control environment are identified, you will work with Process and Control Owners to ensure they understand what is needed and the value these improvements bring, and your team will validate any remedial activity undertaken to determine if it fully mitigates the risk and is sustainable in its operation. Alongside the main testing elements of your role, you will also have the opportunity to lead and support a variety of initiatives within the team and across the wider Society to help deliver our culture of continuous improvement. As a Line Manager you will coach and develop Managers and Consultants within the team to help them achieve their potential. The Controls Testing Team, who are part of the Chief Controls Office within COO, are responsible for planning and delivering Society-wide comprehensive controls testing of the critical controls which underpin Nationwide's financial and non-financial risk policies. What you'll be doing As a Senior Manager you will be accountable for: - Leading the delivery of a control testing portfolio spanning non-financial policies and processes Society wide. Developing a team of Control Testing Managers and Consultants to deliver reviews in line with the First Line Control Testing Methodology and Approach to both time and quality. Working in partnership with the business to define and deliver control testing plans and report the results to key stakeholders and Risk Committees providing insight into what we have found and why it matters. Supporting stakeholders in the definition of remediation plans to address identified control gaps, ensuring that the sustainable steps have been taken to address. Providing constructive challenge and advice to ensure the right outcomes for our customers and the Society. Working collaboratively with partners across the 3LOD to simplify and strengthen risk management practices. Working as an integral and senior member of Control Testing Team and Chief Controls Office identifying and leading on internal initiatives to drive a continuous improvement approach in all we do. Deputising for the Head of Control Testing and other senior members of the team as required. About you As a minimum requirement you'll have: - Strong leadership experience in Audit, Controls Testing, Risk or Compliance. Significant experience in the definition and delivery of Controls Testing plans, framework and associated reporting. Appropriate subject matter expertise / professional qualifications with knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practice in one or more of the following areas: Technology, Information Security, Data Governance, Data Privacy, Business Continuity, Economic Crime, Payments, Retail Banking, Mortgages. The ability to demonstrate decisiveness and sound judgement on a consistent basis. With strong critical thinking, you'll comprehend and assimilate information rapidly, break down complex problems and provide support and challenge in a clear and understandable way to suit different audiences, from Exco level through to wider colleague engagement. Experience of working and developing high value relationships with Senior level stakeholders across the 3LOD. The ability to be resilient and calm under pressure, stepping back and considering the bigger picture and being comfortable managing through uncertainty and ambiguity. Well-developed coaching, mentoring and performance management skills. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal including proven negotiating, facilitation and influencing skills.
