Your new role: The Head of Risk, Governance & Compliance (HoRGC) will provide high-level expertise and leadership across corporate governance, clinical governance, patient safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, and privacy.
The role is responsible for ensuring Doctor Care Anywhere is safe, effective, responsive, well-led, and compliant with all relevant regulations, including CQC standards, GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018, NHS DSP Toolkit, and ISO 27001. The post-holder will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a strong governance culture that supports high-quality, safe care for patients.
* Remit: Risk & Compliance Manager (plus a coordinator), Incident & Complaints Manager (plus a coordinator)
* This position is hybrid, requiring regular travel to the London office, approximately 2-3 days per week.
* Salary Banding: £70,000 - £80,000 per annum
Requirements
Governance & Compliance
* Ensure the organisation adheres to robust governance structures that support high-quality care with effective monitoring, reporting, and continuous learning.
* Lead on CQC compliance and regulatory readiness, ensuring full adherence to Health and Social Care Act 2008 and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
* Provide high-quality leadership, coaching, and role modelling in all aspects of risk, compliance, and governance.
* Oversee governance training, ensuring alignment with statutory requirements, including Caldicott Principles, NHS governance frameworks, and professional standards (GMC/NMC/HCPC).
* Lead on privacy, data protection, and information governance in compliance with GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, ICO guidelines, and NHS Digital requirements.
* Ensure effective risk management across the business, including:
* Maintaining and managing the corporate risk register by collaborating with departmental SMEs across the business and executive leads ownership.
* Leading risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and incident reporting frameworks.
* Overseeing business continuity planning (BCP) and cybersecurity risk management.
* Lead on Serious Incidents (SIs), ensuring compliance with the NHS Serious Incident Framework and Duty of Candour obligations (statutory and professional).
* Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to investigate and manage serious clinical and patient safety incidents, including:
* Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and learning from incidents.
* Reporting to external bodies (e.g., CQC, NHS England, ICO).
* Ensuring regulatory compliance in all external notifications.
* Benchmark performance against national and local standards and identify areas for improvement.
Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement
* Provide strategic leadership and oversight across:
* Clinical incident and complaint management.
* Clinical audit and compliance monitoring.
* Patient safety and quality improvement programmes.
* Patient feedback (NPS, engagement, and satisfaction).
* Claims, litigation, and inquests.
* Privacy and patient data rectification/access requests.
* Continuous learning and improvement initiatives.
* Provide expertise on complaints management within DCA as a business.
* Lead on the development and continuous improvement of governance policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
* Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, NHS DSP Toolkit, and relevant healthcare data security regulations.
Regulatory & External Compliance
* Lead regulatory compliance programmes for Doctor Care Anywhere, ensuring adherence to:
* Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.
* Health and Social Care Act 2008 and NHS governance standards.
* General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018.
* ICO guidelines and NHS Digital Data Security & Protection Toolkit.
* Develop compliance and governance training to embed a strong risk and governance culture across the organisation.
* Ensure robust policy development and governance assurance frameworks.
* Prepare for CQC inspections and lead on compliance reporting and external audits.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
* Senior-level experience in a regulated healthcare organisation, ideally in clinical governance, risk, and compliance.
* Strong knowledge of CQC regulatory frameworks and NHS governance structures.
* Root Cause Analysis (RCA) training and Serious Incident (SI) management experience.
* Experience managing complaints, patient safety incidents, and regulatory reporting.
* Strong experience in policy development and governance assurance.
* Understanding of clinical audits, risk registers, benchmarking, and patient safety metrics.
* Experience in organisational audits and compliance monitoring.
* Strong data analysis skills with the ability to identify trends and drive improvement.
* Experience in digital healthcare or primary care settings.
* Experience leading patient participation groups.
* Experience in strategic planning, change management, and performance monitoring.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
* High-level written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and make clear recommendations.
* Ability to lead difficult conversations and handle complex relationships.
