Portsmouth – with regular travel to Gillingham, Kent
The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust is a Royal Navy & Royal Marines charity that gives help, in cases of need, to serving and former Royal Naval ratings and Royal Marines other ranks. We also help their partners, children and some others connected with them. The RNBT has a ‘family-run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close-knit team making it a unique and very special place to work.
Reporting to the HR Manager and working as part of a small, supportive team, the Training Officer will play a key role in supporting our staff with their diverse training needs. This position is essential in ensuring compliance requirements are met whilst also supporting employees’ aspirations to develop their skills and capabilities, enabling their ongoing professional growth and career progression.
THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE THE POSTHOLDER TO PROVIDE REGULAR ONSITE TRAINING IN BOTH PORTSMOUTH AND GILLINGHAM.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop & Deliver Training
o Design and implement training programs that meet regulatory requirements and best practices in health and social care to support the aims of achieving and maintaining at least GOOD CQC ratings in The RNBT Care Homes.
o Deliver mandatory training (e.g. safeguarding, moving & handling, infection control) and specialist training (e.g. dementia care, mental health awareness).
o Support the HR Team to design and deliver non-care based training requirements on topics such as EDI, safer recruitment, people management etc.
2. Ensure Compliance & Quality Standards
o Ensure staff training aligns with CQC (Care Quality Commission) standards, Health & Safety regulations and other care sector requirements.
o Keep accurate training records to demonstrate compliance during audits and inspections.
o Liaise with Employee Services Officers and Managers to ensure training compliance levels are maintained.
3. Support Staff Development
o Identify training needs through skills assessments, meetings with managers and feedback.
o Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to enhance staff confidence and competence where required.
4. Improve Care Quality & Safety
o Equip staff with up-to-date knowledge and best practices to enhance resident safety and care delivery.
o Promote a learning culture that encourages continuous professional development (CPD).
This role would suit a highly organised individual who has experience in a care training or similar role. The post is fast-paced and varied so an ability to manage changing priorities and be responsive is essential.
A naval, armed forces or non-profit background would be beneficial but is not essential; our team have built their experiences across a wide range of sectors and we strive to be as inclusive as possible to drive diversity across the Trust.
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a generous suite of benefits including:
* 26 days holiday + Christmas shut-down (in addition to annual leave)
* Cycle to Work Scheme
* Free on-site parking
* Eligible for Blue Light Card
A full job description is available on request.
We actively encourage Veterans and Reservists or those who volunteer with the Cadet Service to apply.
