The Position: Our highly innovative business requires six-month medical leave cover for an experienced R&D Director. This cover role is to lead a scientific team working across a diverse range of innovative projects. Reporting to the COO, this technical expert and leader will play a critical role in assay development, Cost of Goods reduction, and design change strategy, implementing new processes, conducting process improvement, and delivering advancement projects for binx. In addition to a high level of technical expertise in the development and performance evaluation of molecular IVD medical devices, the Product Development Director cover role will bring leadership and team building skills to continue the fostering environment of growth and personal development that is a critical backbone of the team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of excellence and passion for developing new products/processes within the molecular IVD medical device industry and an enthusiasm for collaboration with other technical functions such as engineering, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. A key element of this role is in leading the team and working interactively with the operational and manufacturing stakeholders as well as the commercial functions in order to progress post-market studies and inform future menu development. The Product Development Director cover role will also function as an individual contributor and subject matter expert. This role would suit a talented, organised, pro-active individual that can quickly absorb knowledge and rapidly develop relationships with the existing teams with a professional outlook and positive “can-do” attitude. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as being confident at developing strong relationships both internally and externally. Used to multi-tasking; the candidate will require excellent attention to detail and have the ability to prioritise workload, disseminate complex information and communicate this internally and externally with the ability to motivate and inspire. Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership in optimisation, performance evaluation, and design transfer of IVD medical devices and components. Manage internal research and development activities to deliver against corporate objectives & milestones. Responsible for department budget, monitoring, and reporting. Effective management of financial, human, and other resources, necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role. Ensure all development projects are designed to be compliant with the binx Quality Management System, ISO13485, and US FDA regulatory requirements. Drive end to end product development cycles of medical devices. Develop, optimise and implement R&D tools, processes, standards and metrics, including establishment of best practices. Lead in developing project plans and timelines for project delivery. Drive and lead innovative problem resolution at an accelerated pace. Provide technical leadership, with the ability to deep dive into technical issues across all technical teams. Work closely with the COO and other appropriate staff including programme and/project managers to deliver against corporate objectives and milestones. Project and maintain, at a high-profile, the company's scientific excellence to an external audience. Maintain awareness of technological advancements that will sustain the company at the forefront of its field. Education, Experience and Demonstrated Skills: BSc or higher degree (MSc/PhD) in a molecular/scientific discipline At least 10 years previous work experience in a research & development/product development role, including experience at a managerial level. With a proven track record focused on IVD product development specifically with molecular products. Strong background in IVD development programs, including successful new product launches including compliance with Quality Management System & international regulatory requirements Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity, balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness. Effectively demonstrate ability to deliver on complex situations or problems without guidance or supervision. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, with a track record of building and developing teams. Strong communicator, both verbal and written, to engage and influence all levels of internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability as a strategic leader that effectively prioritizes and leads. Demonstrates strong conceptual thinking skills, quantitative, and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills Strong background in IVD development programs, including successful new product launches and process optimisation.
