The Clinical Specialist Practitioner Infection Prevention & Control is an integral member of the clinical infection prevention and control service. As a band 6, the post holder will be provided with training in a broad base of infection prevention and control practice to enable the successful candidate to carry out principle clinical roles. In this position, you will have the chance to: Implement and monitor IPC policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and well-being. - Provide guidance and support to staff on IPC best practices, including hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and environmental cleaning. - Conduct audits and surveillance activities to assess compliance with IPC standards and identify areas for improvement. - Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver IPC training and education programs. Main duties of the job Provides specialist advice to professional, ancillary and support staff on care of individual or groups of patients, either with infection or at risk of developing infection. Explains the significance of laboratory reports to hospital staff and relates clinical information to laboratory staff when required. In liaison with the senior members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team investigates outbreaks of hospital infection with particular reference to their source and mode of spread and advises on relevant measures for control. Communicates information to other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team and other staff where relevant. Develops co-operation from staff and strategies for overcoming barriers to understanding. Ensures the implementation of best practice in the prevention and control of infection by using a problem-solving approach and facilitation of the change process. Assists in the development of audit surveillance and other key indicators for infection prevention and control policies and practices. Assists in the collection and analysis of relevant data for the Infection prevention and Control Team.
