Main duties of the job
TheSuccessful post holder will possess the ability to work autonomously, as well as embracing multi-disciplinary team working to support the care of neuroradiology patients, as well as adult theatres when required. The theatre suite consist of 2 theatres one for neuro-interventional work from across the region which includes scrubbing/flooring for acute, planned and emergency neuro interventional cases and our second theatre runs daily outpatient nerve root list. We provide a team to run the nerve root list from admitting patients assisting in theatre and discharging the patients. We are in the process of turning our department into a twenty four hour emergency service to provide the fantastic thrombectomy service to all patients in the region who have had a stroke caused by a large vessel occlusion. The thrombectomy service is one of the new treatment for strokes that have made a big impact on the recover and time patients require hospital care. At present we work over seven day and are expected to have a full twenty four hour service running by June 2025. We plan to cover this with shift work.

As a major trauma center, it is important to have an insight into emergency preparedness such as major incident, business continuity, operational resilience, evacuation planning and infectious diseases. Willing to take part in audit, risk assessments and clinical supervision. Also to be prepared to take on any additional training required for the role such as DATIX, allocate health roster etc.
Job Purpose
* Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP with professional accountability and standards, ensuring professional practices in line with the requirements of the NMC / HCPC and the Trust.
* Act as a deputy and effectively manage the Department / Theatre resource when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP is absent.
* Ensure that quality indicators (CAT / Safety Thermometer) returns for Theatre / Department are completed monthly.
* Ensure all staff within Theatre / Department are kept fully appraised of all the governance indicators relating to their Theatre and Department and participate in bringing about improvements where necessary.
* Communicates with patients, carers and the wider multi-disciplinary team and in so doing, acknowledges / accommodates barriers to communication and understanding including speech, hearing, language and emotions.
* Receives and delivers confidential and sensitive information which will be complex and sensitive (e.g. child protection or adult safeguarding).
* Assesses complex issues and facilitates decision making relating to patient care, safety treatment options and outcomes, and supervises others in doing this.
* Attends Directorate Sisters / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP meetings and Trust wide Sisters / Charge Nurse / ODP Forums.
* The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring all theatre data collection forms are accurately completed.
* The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that staff fully comply with the all policies relating to the theatre environment.
* The Team Leader will be expected to make decisions and organise staff into the specific areas where the work is required.
* To be proactive & make decisions when extra staff may be required to be called in to support activity.
* To liaise with surgical teams during discussions regarding priority patients. The Team Leader will be expected to ensure that Consultants are identified and encouraged to discuss patient priority procedures with each other and the Anesthetist.
* Use down time to facilitate staff training & education by using the time productively such as ensuring staff actively use time for mandatory training.
* Use the time during no activity to ensure staff stock and clean theatres and surrounding areas to ensure theatres maintain high standards of cleanliness and are fully prepared at all times toreceive patients for surgery.
* Advise and support junior members of staff.
