Are you looking for an excellent professional opportunity? Why not join our Emotional Wellbeing in Education (EWE) Project for Children in Care as an Assistant Educational Psychologist? We are located within Leicester City Council's Psychology Service.
The EWE Project's aim is to promote the psychological and social and emotional well-being of Children in Care. You'll be involved in direct work with Children and Young People in Care to support their social and emotional development and engagement with learning, through psychological assessment and interventions.
EWE project Assistant Educational Psychologist posts have provided excellent opportunities for colleagues wanting to apply for professional doctoral programmes in educational and clinical psychology.
It is a part-time post (25.9 hours per week) typically Monday to Thursday. Your base will be New Parks House, Pindar Road, Leicester LE3 9RN.
The post is fixed term until August 2026 and is funded through Leicester City Virtual School.

What you'll be doing
As an Assistant Educational Psychologist with the EWE project, your main role will involve delivering school-based short-term interventions for Children in Care - 1:1 and/or group work. You will be focusing on the development of psychological well-being, plus supporting key adults to understand the children's needs. The work will take place in educational or community settings.
What you'll need
As the successful applicant, you'll have an upper second class (2:1 or above) honours degree in Psychology that makes you eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society. You'll have significant experience in working directly with vulnerable children, young people, and with parents, for example: teaching, youth work, mental health support worker, residential children's home, social work assistant, or experience working as an Assistant Psychologist. In addition, you'll have effective communication skills, both oral and written. You'll be required to analyse data and produce reports demonstrating EWE project outcomes.
You'll be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of a wide range of psychological methods and perspectives which underpin the work of an applied psychologist and provide significant knowledge and experience of children and adolescent development including the needs of Children in Care.
Due to the nature of this post, you'll be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
