You’ll be working on re-inventing insurance in exciting markets across multiple territories including the UK, US, and the Netherlands, with plans to expand into new European countries. Supported by (and reporting to) the Director of Underwriting, you'll be joining a friendly team of 4 who believe in delivering highly innovative, data-led, sustainable insurance products by challenging everything they know about insurance. What you'll do As a Motor Underwriter you will be responsible for managing the underwriting strategy and ongoing development of our motor portfolio. You will focus on innovation, profitability & growth to develop and deliver the insurance product strategy and all related activities in close collaboration with the sales, marketing and technology teams. Working alongside peers who cover other products/territories, you will be leading initiatives to accelerate growth, profitability and to continually optimise the customer lifecycle. We don’t have a definite checklist of skills – our hiring process is much more about aptitude and passion than ticking boxes. So don’t worry if you haven’t used a particular tool or checked off all the listed skills and experience. That said, below is a guideline of skills that we think would make you successful in this role: Have plenty of experience in product and underwriting in the personal or commercial motor insurance sector (we think this would be 5 years). Understand the insurance regulatory landscape well and are very familiar with insurance market structures, market cycles and insurance operations, including compliance and regulatory issues. Have an in-depth knowledge of all tools and models used in the underwriting process, having previously helped actuarial to develop rating plans and pricing tools. Know how to develop underwriting guidelines whether or not there are reference guides to evaluate the exposures, historical data to evaluate loss potential or established rating bases for pricing. Have worked in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver optimal results for the business, including insurers, suppliers and claims management companies. Have in the past developed policy/contract language and are comfortable consulting with legal and claims teams to determine intent of coverage language. Have a good knowledge of data gathering and manipulation techniques; a strong command of Excel and excellent analytical abilities including mathematics and statistical concepts. … these additional skills that could set you apart Have a great ability to think outside the box, assess risk and exposures, and be comfortable making underwriting decisions using non-traditional methods and tools. What to expect from the process: Screen & Intro: 30-minute video call with the Talent Team to discuss the role and your experience. First Interview: 60-minute video call with the Director of Underwriting and Senior Underwriter to delve into the role, including technical questions and an opportunity for you to ask questions. Final Interview: 45-60 minute interview with the Head of Pricing and someone from the People team, this will be a team fit interview and another opportunity for you to ask questions.
