Role: Occupational Hygiene Technician
About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Occupational Hygiene Technician to join our team at Altrad, supporting the delivery of occupational hygiene services for our clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out various activities related to occupational hygiene, including:
* Maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation, industry standards, and best practices in occupational hygiene to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
* Providing guidance and support to site personnel on proper use of PPE, safe work practices, and ergonomic considerations to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.
* Participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to raise awareness of occupational health hazards and promote a culture of safety among site personnel.
* Supporting the Occupational Hygiene Manager as required to achieve the Occupational Hygiene Strategy.
* Participating in specific occupational hygiene-related investigations and studies as required by the HSSE manager and project.
* Developing technical expertise in occupational health and noise pollution, fume control, while ensuring the best possible contribution to the overall technical performance of the HSSE department.
* Supporting COSHH management arrangements as required by the Occupational Hygiene Manager and project.
* Collaborating with the client occupational hygiene team.
* Supporting project teams to embed occupational hygiene-related aspects into the execution of works.
* Performing regular assessments of occupational health hazards present on the construction site, including but not limited to noise, dust, chemical exposures, and hand-arm vibration.
* Conducting personal monitoring and sampling to assess levels of airborne contaminants, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
* Monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of control measures in place to mitigate exposure to occupational hazards, such as ventilation systems, personal protective equipment (PPE), and engineering controls.
* Collaborating with site management and health and safety personnel to develop and implement strategies to minimize occupational health risks and promote a safe working environment.
* Maintaining accurate records of monitoring data, inspection reports, and any incidents or near misses related to occupational hygiene, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Previous experience in an occupational hygiene role is preferred but not essential.
* A technical/scientific background or HSE professional qualification.
* Ideal qualifications include being a member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (AFOH) and working towards the Certificate of Operation Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH). However, full training can be provided to candidates.
Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the nuclear or construction industry, would be advantageous.
