Job Description
Reporting to The Head of Business Development, The Business Development Support position will support the BD Team in its core activities of winning new business by coordinating the end-to-end tender / bid process. You will liaise with management to develop a bid strategy and win-themes in accordance with operational and commercial objectives at site and business level.
The individual will also work closely with the wider Commercial team and help to process key documentation such as price change forms, costing documents, updating customer portals and arranging commercial meetings.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hour week.
Key Duties of a Business Development Support:
* Aid the team in qualifying potential bids, discussing pros / cons with necessary stakeholders.
* Prepare, with the aid of the solutions and sales functions, the RFQ summary documents and recommendations for review by the senior team prior to commencing a project.
* Frequent retail customer portals and communicate key activity to the senior commercial team on tenders, changes to artwork or product composition and ensure key timelines are delivered.
* Ability to build presentations in readiness for tender / marketing requirements ensuring all work is positioned correctly with clear win themes and messages to maximise success rates.
* Compile the final tender documents to submit to the customer, ensuring tender compliance and going “above & beyond” requirements where possible / appropriate.
* Develop our response format to ensure the service and proposal is presented in the best and most appropriate way for the type of customer / opportunity – e.g. use of video; imagery; graphics.
* Assist with the compilation of accurate cost models to support the tender through a detailed understanding of the project requirements, continuously developing thorough knowledge of operational capabilities throughout the network.
* Regularly update the CRM system to capture pipeline developments and opportunities.
* Analyse the success of previous tenders and bids, and use the information to improve systems and processes going forward.
* Be a first port of call for inbound new business enquiries, fielding opportunities where appropriate to the Business Development Managers.
* Liaise and work closely with the sales; solutions and wider senior operations team to help manage the tender process from end-to-end.
* Work closely with wider internal stakeholders to ensure that all tenders are submitted for the correct site which is best placed to support the work.
* Keep a central database of all commercial costings and once agreed with customers, process price change forms via finance.
* Manage the scheduling of meetings and output in accordance with the objectives of both customer and the commercial teams expectations.
* Manage timely escalation of risks / issues regarding resourcing; timescales and potential problems
* Manage a “success database”, showing reasons for success / failure and key facts / figures regarding the proposal.
* Develop and maintain a central ‘knowledgebase’ of material that can be used during future negotiations.
* Develop reports for use by the directors to track projects and business development activity.
* As the role develops and the individual progresses, there is room for additional responsibilities to be encompassed in the role.
Qualifications
* Previous experience within a similar commercial role.
* An awareness of the Co Pack and Co Manufacturing market in general may be beneficial, but is not essential.
* Able to work under pressure to hit customer deadlines.
* Ability to write technical documents in a clear and concise manner.
* Possesses excellent IT skills (with a focus on MS Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
* Able to manipulate data using excel and develop concise summaries / outputs.
* Forms great relationships with direct colleagues and wider teams.
