About us
The UCL Policy Lab was launched in 2022 to bring together the most celebrated policy makers in the country, with leading scholars and those who have direct, lived experiences of issues on the front line.
The Lab is now consolidating and expanding an exciting new collaborative project, initially launched with the This Day Foundation. It is building a unique ecosystem to support those endeavouring to bring about social change. Together, the Lab and its partners foster the skills, networks and ideas that social changemakers need to transform our politics and policy and be influential in the highest levels of government. This new space is home to changemakers of all kinds to learn, explore and develop their leadership together, supported by the resources one of the world’s greatest universities.
About the role
The UCL Policy Lab wishes to appoint a two-year full time fixed term Project Manager to oversee the delivery of a series of key events and activities for this programme of work. The individual will help devise and coordinate a programme of high-level private workshops and events for changemakers, including those supported by the This Day foundation, providing extensive service support to attendees as well as supporting the project to build up a wide network of key stakeholders across the world of social change.
The individual will be crucial to designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences for the participants as well as ensuring that the dialogue between project participants builds over time and its richness is fully captured and acted upon. The individual will also run some of the sessions themselves and assist the Lab with both research and administrative support in the run up to the events.
The post-holder will work alongside an existing project manager and report directly to the Lab's Director. They will work closely with the Lab's Operations Manager and Head of Communication and Engagement, and be part of implementing the Lab's overall impact strategy. The post holder must be able to work flexibly, independently and proactively.
About you
The post holder will report directly to the Lab's Director but work closely with the rest of the team. The following is an indicative list of duties:
1. Help design, develop and deliver engaging programmes of events, activities, and workshops for social changemakers.
2. Draft briefs in advance of workshops for circulation at the event.
3. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders from the policy community and further afield.
4. Contribute to the ongoing development of the Lab’s approach to policy engagement, including developing, testing and scaling new relationship building techniques and methodologies.
5. Support close collaborative working on joint projects with the This Day Foundation and with relevant stakeholders, including senior government officials.
6. Track and report impact for internal purposes, marketing and various evaluation processes (e.g., writing a report at the end of the project).
7. Work with the UCL Policy Lab team to help deliver operational support for the activities of the project, including: contributing to shared infrastructure and tools; working with the Head of Communications and Engagement to deliver wider impact; working with the Team to coordinate delivering of world class policy events.
8. Manage PhD students or equivalent on short term placements who assist at events.
9. Follow and promote UCL policies, including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and maintain an awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations.
