Your New Role
As a Natural Product Chemist, you will play a crucial role in leading and developing purification pipelines and characterising promising small molecules from plant extracts. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team as part of the biosynthetic-production pipeline, utilising a range of techniques from preparative to analytical scales. Your primary focus will be on optimising purification processes to obtain mg-scale quantities of compounds for further testing.
Main Responsibilities
1. Extraction and Purification: Extract and purify small molecules from complex plant material using advanced analytical techniques.
2. Characterisation: Characterise complex molecular structures using techniques such as LCMS, HPLC, and 1D/2D-NMR.
3. Process Optimisation: Develop and optimise purification methodologies and pipelines to ensure efficient and reproducible results.
4. Collaboration: Work closely with the wider scientific team, including bio- and chem-informaticians, to deliver on project goals.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
1. Education: PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
2. Experience: Extensive experience with analytical techniques (LCMS, HPLC) for purifying natural products from plant extracts and characterising complex natural products using 1D and 2D-NMR.
3. Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and develop ideas, and excellent presentation and communication skills.
4. Desirable: Experience with metabolomics, working with terpenoids, and purifying small quantities of compounds from complex natural extracts.
