Band 5 Rotational Occupational Therapist
Full time - 37.5 hours per week
We are really excited to be starting a new Community Band 5 Rotation Scheme across community and rehabilitation services in the London Borough of Bromley!
We are looking for new or experienced band 5 Occupational Therapists who are looking to gain experience of working in a community environment in order to embed and learn new skills on which to base the foundation of their careers.
Rotations will last for 6 months and currently involve the Adult Occupational Therapy Service, Community Neurological Rehabilitation Service and Home Pathway Rehabilitation Service. It is expected that more services will join the rotation in the coming months.
Due to the community nature of this role, being a car driver is essential.

Main duties of the job
As a participant on the band 5 Occupational Therapy rotation scheme, postholders will rotate every 6 months through a variety of community services. These services work across the borough of Bromley providing assessment to intervention to residents living in their own homes and care homes, as well as those admitted to the inpatient rehabilitation unit.
You will be expected to:
* Contribute to the clinical delivery of the service, including completing patient assessments, designing care and rehabilitation programmes, delivering rehabilitation and effective discharge planning.
* Work in partnership with acute care and social care.
* Contribute to the development of support staff within the service through training and supervision.
* Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of any existing and new patient pathways.
* Maintain and develop own professional expertise as a clinician.
* Ensure adherence to all issues associated with clinical governance, policies and procedures of Bromley Healthcare and relevant professional standards (e.g. Royal College of Occupational Therapists).

Job responsibilities

* Carry out assessments of patients as an autonomous practitioner, using clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence-based practice to formulate appropriate care/treatment plans.
* Design patient care and rehabilitation programmes which may be implemented by other members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Maximise the functional ability and occupational performance of individuals by developing realistic treatment plans and goals.
* Delegate appropriate tasks effectively to Therapy/Rehab assistants.

* Reassess patients to progress and/or modify care plans appropriately.
* Show respect to patients' beliefs, values, and differing cultural needs.
* Motivate and engage patients and their families/carers in the rehabilitation process.

* Consider the needs of carers to ensure necessary support systems are in place.
* Participate in collecting standardised measures of outcome as required by the service.
* Be aware of all issues relating to Clinical Governance and meet standards as required.
* Maintain clinical and care records for own interventions in line with organisational and legal requirements.
* Manage risk within own caseload, completing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with guidelines.
* Carry out a full range of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions appropriate to the caseload.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Post-Graduate MSc in relevant field.
Registration
* HCPC registration.
* Member of RCOT.
Information Technology
* Knowledge of iRIS5 or similar IT System.
* Sound IT skills including word processing and data analysis such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Training
* Evidence of CPD.
* Evidence of studying at MSc level.
* Practice Educator training.
Experience
* Postgraduate experience relevant to the Service.
* Experience of working in the community.
* Proven experience of assessing service users in a wide range of settings.
* Demonstrable experience of managing own caseload and delegation.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience of delivering in-service training.
* Experience of working in the acute sector.
* Experience of measuring and monitoring performance.
Skills
* Well-developed interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written.
* Able to motivate and persuade service users with impaired cognitive or physical ability.
* Ability to use initiative and work creatively and independently.
* Car Driver with a valid UK licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
* Use of electronic patient record systems (EMIS).
* Skilled negotiator and communicator in a range of environments.
* Datix trained.
* Complaints handling.

£34,521 to £41,956 a year incl HCAS per annum pro rata.
