Our client, a manufacturing business focused on traditional engineering and metals, seeks to appoint a Production Engineer to improve manufacturing techniques in order to reduce cycle times, remove waste, and increase quality and repeatability. Working alongside multiple departments, you will be a good communicator able to quickly integrate.
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will also produce reports and analyse production data to improve manufacturing and be the point of contact within the lean function to answer queries on production engineering for the quality, production, maintenance, and design departments. The ideal Production Engineer will come from a manufacturing background: plastic, glass, electronics, food, automotive, etc.
Manufacturing Engineer - Role & Responsibilities
1. Address root causes of process and yield issues. Work with the quality department and understand 4D/8D/Root Cause Analysis. Implement CAPA.
2. Work with the test department to maintain test equipment.
3. Increase OEE and reduce machine downtime. Work with maintenance and advise on TPM/PPM.
4. Make improvements to processes and production techniques. Work with production to reduce lead times, improve tooling and changeovers, and drive greater performance from existing staff. Observe assembly staff and assess for ergonomic issues with operators.
5. Lead Design Reviews and report back to R&D to allow the design of easily manufacturable products.
6. Liaise with Lean Engineers. Knowledge of SMED/POKE YOKE techniques.
Manufacturing Engineer - Skills & Abilities
1. Experience of production engineering: layout, continuous flow, SMED, CAPEX, planning, capacity modelling/simulation, costing.
2. Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement knowledge. Six Sigma training preferred but not essential.
3. HND/Degree qualified in Production or Manufacturing Engineering.
4. Knowledge of manufacturing (plastic, glass, electronics, food, automotive, etc.).
