A successful Food Commodities business require a Shipping Manager. Applicants need previous experience in a Shipping role (bulk shipments), strong knowledge of import, export and customs procedures and an appreciation of global logistics and distribution processes.
The Shipping Manager will manage a small team of Shipping Clerks, responsible for overseeing day-to-day shipping (bulk shipments) and distribution operations for foodstuffs. The role will also include close liaison with internal departments such as Finance and external partners such as 3PLs.
Specific duties of the Shipping Manager include:
End-to-End management of the Shipping process
Interactions with 3PLs/suppliers/carriers - relationship management, negotiation, performance monitoring
Ensure shipments comply with local/international laws, tariffs, regulations
Manage documentation such as; bill of lading, shipping invoices, packing lists, customs declarations
Create/track shipping schedules and routes
Support the production of VAT returns
Monitor stock/inventory levels
Line management and training of shipping and logistics teams
Shipping Manager applicants should meet the following criteria:
Experience in a Shipping role handling bulk shipments, ideally as Shipping Manager, Shipping Supervisor, Shipping Team Leader
Experience in handling shipments of; food, commodities, raw materials, chemicals, pharma products etc would be advantageous but not essential
Knowledge and experience with relevant documentation; bill of lading, shipping invoices, packing lists, customs declarations
Experienced in 3PL/supplier management and negotiations
Strong knowledge of international logistics, importing and exporting processes
